Is it worth seeing?:

Marla and Charlie don’t see eye to eye anymore. They used to have so much fun together, but can they find there way back to that?

Much like the Lego Movie and Ugly Dolls before it- you can’t help but watch Playmobil the Movie as if it was an hour and a half commercial for the toys. The movie tries to pull on the heartstrings of adults and entertain kids. And while it was pretty entertaining, and happens to be a musical?!, it is not a movie I would rush out to see again.

It is however, a fun- feel- good movie and a nice theater alternative to Frozen 2 over the long holiday break if you want to see something else. Otherwise, I would wait to watch it until it starts streaming.

Review

-Characters & Acting: We were SUPER disappointed that Daniel Radcliffe’s Rex Dasher did not have more of a part in the movie- the previews totally mislead you to believe that he was a main character and he was not. That being said, the two leads did a great job! And it’s always entertaining to hear Jim Gaffigan voice a character. The musical aspect totally surprised us and it was great to hear Adam Lambert and Meghan Trainor voice characters as well as sing.

-Script & Story: Character development and the script were a little stiff and forced in places. The sibling back and forth did not feel like it was written by someone who actually remember what having a younger sibling as a kid was like. And also took me a while to really get into the story.

There were good points for adults, but there really were not any good moral points or lessons for kids until the last third of the movie. The first two thirds legitimately just felt like a commercial.

However, I was pleasantly surprised by how well they wrapped it up. It was a feel good movie with just enough of a kick of purpose at the end of the story to make me like it.

-Film Quality: I was not overly impressed with film quality, but the animation was very good overall. The one thing that really stood out to me was how believable the toys eating was! I also appreciated the glitter clouds.

Favorite Moments:
-The musical aspect was surprising but fun- and fit in pretty well. There was really only one song that I really liked and would play for my kids.
-LOVED the fake muscle shirt chaise. Can I be carried around in one of those please?!
-I really enjoyed Rex Dashers part. Perfect mix between 007 and Han Solo. Plus the few really good dad jokes they threw in! Like dino-soar.

Other:
-Another good movie about sibling love and friendship!
-It is always good to have a reminder that listening to and playing with kids is really important.
-Although it was hard to pick out the lessons for kids there were a few. 1) Always being there for your friends! 2) Girls can be adventurous knights too! 3) You always have it within yourself to find fun, joy and adventure.
