Lego Movie 2 Review
-The comedy style of this movie is very similar to the first one. Overall, it has a very light tone with comedic expressions and sound fluctuations that will keep the little ones pretty entertained. On top of this, it also has some very clever humor that will keep the older kids (and the parents entertained as well. The way that the writers were able to use things from the first movie while also coming up with new and original content made for a very enjoyable experience.
-One of the revolving themes throughout this film is finding the balance of being overly-optimistic and becoming jaded. The lesson that was most pivotal to the movie is that even when things are not going your way, you can still be positive. At the same time, they show that when things get scary and hard, it can still be okay and you can still have hope. Also it’s okay for everything to not be awesome all the time.
-Another big theme is coming together and sharing, especially with siblings. Without sharing, many of the awesome things you get to experience during the movie, would not have been quite as awesome. Sharing and doing things together can make things even better than they ever have been before.

General Plot Summary
-The plot starts off as a story of the original Legos having to take on their Duplo counter parts. It quickly jumps to five years in the future and the Duplo empire has completely taken over. This struggle continues throughout the entire movie with the Duplos continuously saying that they want to find peace between their groups while the Legos are convinced they are up to no good. This all comes to a head when Emmet must make a decision to embrace the Duplos or continue to fight them.
-The plot between the brother and sister is ultimately the main plot of this movie. At the very end of the first movie, we are told that the older brother must play with his little sister, which he is not looking forward to. Cut to five years later, and this tension has just gotten worse. It gets so bad that their mother gives them the ultimatum of “If you can’t get a long, then you must pack up all the Legos. They can’t get a long and lose their access to their Legos. They must learn to communicate with each other and to truly understand the other’s point of view.
-One very interesting subplot revolves around Emmet’s seeming inability to cope with the times. Throughout the apocalypse, he is still his extremely cheer, much to the chagrin of his friends and most importantly, Wildstyle. She ends up telling Emmet that he needs to get a dark side if he wants to survive in this new world, but his overall cheeriness just wouldn’t allow for this. Through an interesting twist, you do get to see what would happen if Emmet embraced his dark side, and this is the revelation that Emmet and Wildstyle needed to realize that Emmet was exactly who he needs to be.
