Thoughts from the Elf:

-This is a movie you are going to want to go see with your pre-teens and teens! The main character has to battle not only bullies, but her view of herself to find her way. A wonderful reminder for us all that our imperfect self is worthy and loveable.

-It makes me sad that the movie has gotten a lot of flack for not being enough like the book and for getting rid of the explicit Christian themes. I saw God in this movie in so many ways. God is love and light after all. To me it was overtly Christian whether it wanted to be or not. And every book to movie adaptation is going to be a little different than the book.

-I thought that every character was very well cast. The imagery was beautiful. It was a beautiful movie and I will definitely be watching it again.

-Go let your light shine and be a warrior!

Thoughts from the Ent:

– Overall, I very much enjoyed this movie.  I understand that many people have disliked this movie due to the fact that it doesn’t measure up to the book.  I have not read the book, so perhaps it was easier for me to look past that and see it for what it is at its core: a good movie.

-Spoiler-ish alert:  Throughout the movie, our main character, Meg Murry, is struggling with self-identity (and who didn’t as a preteen/teen).  At one of the more poignant moments in the movie, Meg comes face to face with the “perfect” version of herself. Rather than giving into this idea, she literally kills this idea of perfection and accepts herself, flaws and all.

-Aesthetically, this movie is quite a wild journey through many different sceneries. I thoroughly enjoyed the underlying theme of this.  The movie deals with the universe as a whole and that although the universe can seem chaotic, when looked at as a whole, it is something quite beautiful that tells a grand story.

-It was cool to see Zach Galifianakis and Mindy Kaling in roles that were not comedic.

We highly recommend this movie 🙂 If you are interested in watching it, you can get it below!
