2020 is almost over and as we look back at the roller coaster of this year, we saw some really interesting changes and moves within the entertainment industry. Even with theaters shuttered and shooting stalled- we still saw (and will continue to see) some really creative and amazing things released. We also have so many to look forward to and are excited to show you just a few! We hope you enjoy our list of family movies from 2020 and family movies coming out in 2021! And that we are all able to support the entertainment industry in some or many ways this upcoming year.
Best Family movies from 2020
Soul
–Rating: PG
–Quick Summary: Joe Gardener is passionate about Jazz but not as excited about his teaching gig. He is just about to fulfill his lifelong dream when something goes terribly wrong and he ends up in the Soul world. He’s got to figure out how to help someone else as well as himself before he can get back to earth.

Onward
–Rating: PG
–Quick Summary: Two brothers are left a magic wand and spell that is supposed to enable their father to return for a day but it only partially works. This sends the brothers on an adventure with a part of their dad to try and bring the rest of him back, before their time with him is up. Through the adventure they discover a different kind of magic than they were expecting.

Enola Holmes

–Description: Based off the popular Book Series by Nancy Springer, the game is afoot when Enola Holmes wakes up on her 16th birthday with her mother having vanished in the night. She must find her mother while evading her two famous, older brothers who desperately want her to fall in line with their own plans. With new friends, mysterious clues, and action around every turn, Enola Holmes will bring you along on an incredible and thrilling journey.

Black Beauty
-Rating: PG
–Quick Summary: The story opens with Black Beauty telling you about an idyllic childhood. The whole story is narrated from Black Beauty’s perspective. Of course, childhood can’t last forever. Through a series of events that Black Beauty has absolutely no control over, life becomes an incredible and hard adventure. How will beauty respond and will the ending to the story be a happy one? Sewell wrote an amazing story that emphasize the importance of personal responsibility and kindness. Plus, the need for better treatment of horses! And the movie is a wonderful adaption of it.

One and Only Ivan
–Rating: PG
–Quick Summary: Mack’s mall show is starting to fizzle. Ivan the incredible gorilla isn’t bringing in the crowds like he used to. So he finds a new headliner and Ivan isn’t sure how to feel about it. He would be content to draw with Julia and stay in his cage forever, but he wants freedom and protection for his friends. But what can a lone gorilla do? In this heartwarming movie, based on a true story, friendship and creativity save the day in more ways than one. And it’s based on a true story- read about it after the movie during the credits!

Just Mercy
–Rating: PG-13
–Quick Summary: Civil rights attorney, Bryan Stevenson, is shocked when he meets a young person that mirrors himself on death row. He and his partners work tirelessly to free people from the heavy chains of injustice, but it is not an easy task, or a safe job. “We’re proud of our civil rights monument”, the townspeople all declare, as they continue to push forward systems of injustice. Based on a true story, from his book of the same name- which is a must read even after watching the movie. (You can find the version adapted for young adults here.)

Raya and the Last Dragon

Description: Humans and Dragons used to live in harmony, until the Druuns showed up and the dragons made the ultimate sacrifice. 500 years later, Raya is on a quest to find the harmony that once existed.
Godzilla vs. Kong

Expected Release Date: May 21st, 2021

Luca

Expected Release Date: June 18th, 2021
Description: Although not much is currently known about Luca, it is the next movie set to come out from Pixar. It is said to be a coming of age story set in Italy.
Space Jam: A New Legacy

Expected Release Date: July 16th, 2021
Description: The sequel to 1996 movie, Space Jam 2 stars Lebron James and will see the return of Looney Tunes in assumingly basketball-centric mayhem.
Jungle Cruise

Description: Based on the Disney ride of the same name, Jungle Cruise stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt who are in search of an ancient tree with the ability to heal.
Spiderman 3
Rating: Expected PG-13
Expected Release Date: December 17th, 2021
Description: After the intense reveal after Spiderman: Far from Home, Spiderman 3 is looking to be an amazing story. It is rumored to be diving into the multiverse of Marvel/Spiderman.
Black Adam
Rating: Expected PG-13
Expected Release Date: December 23rd, 2021
Description: Dwayne Johnson jumps into his first superhero role as Black Adam. Black Adam often goes back and forth on the superhero/villain scale and has most of the same abilities as the man of steel, Superman.
Pinocchio
Rating: PG-13
Expected Release Date: 2021
