Why Board Games?

Bored? Wanting to train your own brain or work on some with your kids? What about their social/emotional skills? If any of those fit, you might want to start up a fun board game!! We’ve got 25 suggestions here grouped by age.

Fun Board Games for Ages 2-5

Hoot Owl Hoot: For 2-4 players. Help out the owls- all together! Cooperative color game.

Candy Land: For 2-4 players. Guide your character along on this sweet, classic, counting and color game.

Uno: For 2-10 players. Recognizing numbers, matching colors, and when you’re playing with older kids- some backhanded craziness- all a part of classic Uno. Try one of the fun themed packs for some new fun.

Stone Soup: For 2-6 players. Too many cooks in the kitchen is a good thing in this cooperative game! Work together to finish the soup.

Q’s Race to the Top: For 2-4 players. If you want to make it to the top in this game, you’re going to have to do it politely. This game works on manners and social skills!

Matching Games: For 1-4 players. Matching games are great intros for kiddos into card games. And easy to turn into a game of memory when they get older.

Fun Board Games for Ages 5-12

Clue Jr.: For 2-6 players. Who ate the cake? Put on your detective hat and try to figure it out first!

Jenga: For 2 players. Can you figure out how to get your piece out safely without knocking down the whole tower? Also check out Suspend and Blokus.

Ticket To Ride, First Journey: For 2-4 players. Build you track on your path to victory! This is a shorter version, but you can find the full adult version here.

HeadBanz: For 2-10 players. Ask questions to find out which character you are! A fun group game that can be as quick or as long as you want it to be. Also check out the family edition of Wits and Wagers.

Cardgames: Crazy 8’s, War…The possibilities are endless with just a single deck of cards!

Fun Board Games for 12+ that are Family Friendly

Monopoly: For 2-6 players. Can you amass a monopoly and take over all the right properties before they’re gone? There are so many different fun versions of this classic game.

Settlers of Catan: For 2-4 players (extension packs available) This is one of our families favorites- who will conquer the world and what do they have to trade to get to victory? Also check out Splendor

Star Wars Carcassonne: For 2-5 players. A tile laying game where you build your world out, but will your path disrupt your opponents plan? Want to rule the galaxy? You’ll have to win a few duels first!

Dicecapades: For 2-6 players. Where did all the dice go? This game ate them! Tons of dice and interactive fun!

Quiddler: A faster paced Scrabble game of sorts. Also check out the historical events game Timeline.

Fun Board Games to Play With People You’ve Known for a Long Time

Super Fight: 3 or more players, odd number is best. With this card game you can amass the strangest army ever to conquer the world. Who will win- an army of kindergartners with laser vision, or unicorns armed with triple horns? You get to argue your case and the rest of the group votes to choose the winner. Quelf: For 3-6 players (although with teams you can do 12). The cards decide your fate! This is a super interactive game where you might have to write a poem or wrap your head in foil.

Codenames: For 4-8 players. Your communication and spy skills will be put to the test with this game!

Mad Gab: For 2-10 players. (Eye Reel E Lie cake) this game- will you? Also check out Speak Out

Scattergories: For 2-4 players. A timed word game- nothing can go wrong! Also check out Taboo.

Fun Board Games to Get to Know a Group of People

Apples to Apples: 4-10 players. Only a handful of the cards might be offensive. This is a really fun game to play with people you’ve known and a good game to get to know people. How sarcastic or serious are they? You can also check out the Disney version. OR our favorite is to mix the cards. Use Disney adjectives to describe the regular green cards.

Would you Rather?: For 2-10 players. This one is a great group or get to know you game. Can be played with or without the game pieces and board.

Munchkin: For 3-6 players. In this exciting role playing card game you find out who your friends are, and who is competitive enough to steal the treasure while you’re attacking a monster.

Pictionary: Any number of players. This version lets you draw in the air (like the game on Jimmy Fallon). Also check out Drawful 2 on Jackbox games. Everyone plays from their own phones! Just make sure you have the family friendly setting turned on.

The Game of Things: For 4 or more players. What comes to mind when you hear the word unicorns? Was it your uncle or your grandmother that wrote glitter farts? In this funny game you guess each others first thoughts.
