Quick Summary of Godzilla vs Kong
The culmination of the Godzilla Movie Series and Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla vs Kong provides exactly what the title says- an epic clash of the titans. Although some of the bigger points may be missed if you haven’t seen the prior movies, you could still enjoy this movie without having seen them! This is more of an action movie than the first Godzilla movie.
Godzilla vs Kong Review: (May Contain Spoilers)
In a really good monster movie it is the humans who are the real monsters. Check. Generally speaking the good guys are good and the bad guys are bad. Check. (Not a lot of character development). Wild inventions and theories. Check. Mythic in scope. Check. Kids understand the monsters better than the adults. Check. A new but familiar monster. Check. This one is pretty much straight action. Great graphics, lots of special effects.
Five years after the last movie, Godzilla suddenly reappears and wreaks havoc on Pensacola Florida. He specifically targets Apex Cybernetics. The CEO Walter Simmons recruits scientist Nathan Lind, a Hollow Earth theorist, to guide a search for a power source in the Hollow Earth. As this (a hollow earth) is believed to be where the Titans, Nathan visits Ilene Andrews, a Kong specialist on Skull Island, to have Kong help. This also involves Andrews deaf adopted daughter, Jia.
Meanwhile, Madison Russell (from the last movie) believes Godzilla is being provoked. She recruits her friend Josh and Apex employee Bernie Hayes to help her discover what is causing Godzilla’s actions.
The two titans are headed on a collision course. Walter Simmons has a plan to eliminate all titans (only humans can be the apex predator) and has a familiar Godzilla monster to help (given his motive, if you are a Godzilla fan you will already have who figured out). Will the villain succeed and will both titans survive an epic battle?

–Why Watch Godzilla vs Kong-
First, it is a great popcorn movie. You know none of it is real. And it has great effects and a good score. When you see a monster vs. monster movie you want to see the monsters fight. You get that. Two, although none of the movies in the monster-verse have relied on a lot of character development, the previous movies touched on environmental or anti-war issues. None of that in this one. Very little development (which is, in a way, a shame as there are some fine actors here).
Kong probably has the most development. However, the villain, in a way, reminded me of Weston from Out of the Silent Planet. Both are interested in the human race coming out on top, regardless of the cost (and both villains clearly violate Christian principles of creation care). So it gets an extra check for a thematic correlation with Lewis.
-Is Godzilla vs Kong appropriate?-
Godzilla vs Kong contains the normal amount of violence for these types of monster movies. It is not any more violent than an MCU movie. Lots of creature violence but no real blood and gore, and it is toned down from some of the previous ones. If the viewer can handle the visuals of the monsters and their violence, this movie should be quite enjoyable.
