I don’t know about you, but quarantine has made us a lot more interested in cooking together! Being together in the kitchen is a great way to communicate with each other. We have pulled out all our themed cookbooks the past couple of months and these are our top five! Cooking with your kids can be such a fun, engaging activity that encourages growth and connection. These are some fun cookbooks for kids (or the young at heart!) that will help spark fun, creative cooking projects for you and your family.

Best Cartoon Themed Cookbook:
Scooby-Doo Spooky Snacks

Scooby Doo Themed Cookbook for kids and beginners

Our favorite recipe from the Scooby-Doo cookbook is the almond crescent cookies. This is definitely a kid friendly cookbook. Our version has dog snack recipe’s too. This is the closest version I can find. Scooby and Shaggy are, of course, famous for their sandwiches.

Best Princess Themed Cookbook
The Disney Princess Cookbook

Disney Cookbook, Princess Themed Cookbook

The Disney Princess Themed Cookbook is a really fun one with lots of recipes that can be made with little helpers. They are kid friendly recipes. We love making these tangled bread sticks together!

Best Nerdy Themed Cookbook
(The Unofficial) Harry Potter Cookbook

Harry Potter Cookbook, Nerdy Cookbook

Our biggest cooking adventures have come from this book. One of them was really, really good- the others, did not go so well. The shepherd’s pie was really good! I’m excited about trying more the desserts in this one too. It’s the Unofficial Harry Potter Themed Cookbook, but it points to some really fun things from the books.

Best Classic Themed Cookbook
Pride and Prejudice by Martha Stewart

Pride and Prejudice Recipes; Classic Literature Themed Cookbooks

These were almond cookies that we really enjoyed. And while the recipes in this one are a little more complicated, it is a fun cookbook because it has the novel in it! A Book to Table Classic– Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice- The Classic Novel with Recipes for Modern Teatime Treats by Martha Stewart. These recipes are mostly finger desserts, it is a tea-time cookbook.

Best Cooking Show Themed Cookbook
You Suck at Cooking (from the Youtube show of the same name)

You Suck at Cooking Cookbook; Themed Cookbooks; Best Cookbooks from cooking Shows

Now before you get offended by the title- this is definitely for teens and people who can laugh at the title. We really enjoy his Youtube channel too. For cooking beginners, this is a really funny way to start exploring cooking. There’s a lot of sarcasm in these videos and cookbook- like using pliers instead of tongs to pick something up. This is a picture of the banana ice cream that we really enjoy from the You Suck at Cooking cookbook.

*Bonus! 5 MORE!

  1. Marvel Eat the Universe: Super fun connections to the comics- not beginner friendly recipes though.
  2. The Great British Bake Off Big Book of Baking: Turns out baking isn’t as easy as it seems on the show, but this book is a blast!
  3. Friends: The Official Cookbook– You don’t have to have Rachel as a waitress to enjoy some Friends coffee shop food anymore!
  4. Eat Like a Gilmore: The Unofficial Cookbook for Fans of Gilmore Girls- Food was SUCH a huge part of this show!
  5. The Official Downton Abbey Cookbook: AKA Mrs. Patmore’s playbook!

Here are our favorite cooking things that we use as a family!
(The kid friendly knives are the best!!)

  1. My house is full of cookbooks, but they are all mine! I’ve never thought about getting themed cookbooks for my kids. What a great idea. As soon as I saw the princess one I thought of my daughter and my son is really into Harry Potter these days. Thanks for these recommendations, I’ll for sure look into these!

  2. I love that there are so many themed cookbooks out there. They really do make for some fun experiences in the kitchen. I don’t own many cookbooks but the few that I do own are mostly themed, such as Star Wars and Warcraft
