Quick Hotel Transylvania: Transformania Summary
It is the 125th anniversary of Hotel Transylvania and Dracula is pondering retirement. He considers passing the hotel to his daughter Mavis and her human husband Johnny, but freezes and lies to Johnny. Johnny uses Van Helsing’s monsterification ray gun to turn himself into a monster, and Drac, by accident, becomes a human. They need to reverse this – but the ray gun breaks, and the needed part is in South America.
Hotel Transylvania Transformania is a cute cap on the series. While most of the character voices returned, Adam Sandler did not. And many have said that this will be their last time voice acting in the series. If anything, the animated cartoon might have a comeback but we do not think there will be anymore Hotel Transylvania movies. That being said, while this movie was not fantastic- it was cute. It was in line with the rest of the movies and there are still plenty of lessons from Hotel Transylvania 4 to talk about.
-Is Hotel Transylvania 4 Appropriate for Younger Kids?
This is a very clean movie, entirely appropriate for younger viewers. Those under 5 may be bored as the plot is not intuitive to follow. There are more potty humor moments to be aware of than scary moments. For instance, there are a lot of but scenes with the invisible man becoming human. No big monster scares, although they did try a couple of small jump scares in the action. There are definitely some scarier images as well. But if they could handle any of the other Hotel Transylvania movies- this one should be fine. Plus some good lessons for young kids on accepting others and admitting when you are wrong.
Hotel Transylvania 4 Parent Review
The story drug in the beginning and was fairly predictable. For the intended audience this is not going to be a problem. For adults you will get mixed reviews. The monsters are not, well, monsters. They are more comic than villainous. And this makes it great for small kids. But as an adult I miss their being at least something quirky about these characters that relates to being monstrous. Spoiler – you get a small hint of what you could do with this towards the end with the dragon that is Johnny.

The Hotel Transylvania movies have a unique take on animating the monsters and it works well, especially in making the monsters not scary. The voice actors did a great job in bringing the characters to life. I was especially impressed with Brain Hull’s imitation of Dracula. The movie is just jam packed with great voices- Andy Samberg as Johnny; Selena Gomez as Mavis; Kathryn Hahn as Ericka; Jim Gaffigan as Van Helsing; Steve Buscemi as Wayne; Molly Shannon as Wanda (Wanda is one of my favorites in the series); David Spade as Griffin; Keegan-Michael Key; Fran Drescher as Eunice; and Brad Abrell as Frankestein. Hotel Transylvania 4 Discussion Questions (geared to ages 5-10):
1) Which character do you like the most and why?
2) Which of the characters is the funniest? What makes them funny?
3) Who is the “burnt marshmallow” in your life (good on the inside)? What makes them that way?
4) Drac lied to Johnny because he was afraid and stressed. Have you ever felt like that? When?
5) Why was it important for Dracula to tell Johnny he was sorry and had been wrong? Is there anyone that you need to say that to?
Lessons from Hotel Transylvania 4
1) Tell the truth
It’s important to communicate clearly and honestly with your family. Dracula likes to avoid his feelings and talking to his family- and it never ends up going well for him.
2) Admit you’re wrong and try to do something about it
Drac needed to apologize. But first, he had to try to make his mistake right by jumping up to save Johnny even though he might have been roasted. It’s important to apologize and also try to make it right with the people we wronged.
3) It’s good to switch it up sometimes
The Hotel Transylvania family needed to see things from someone else’s perspective. Or to walk a mile in each others shoes so that they could appreciate each other a little bit more. Drac and Johnny appreciated each other more after switching places. And the rest of the gang was much happier about being monsters after being human for a while.
4) We’re all monsters sometimes
Human or monster, you’ll make a lot of mistakes. We have to be willing to apologize. We also have to be willing to forgive. We’re not perfect and we can’t expect our friends and family to be perfect a hundred percent of the time either. The glue that holds us together is love…. and marshmallows.
Quotes from Hotel Transylvania 4 Transformania

“You’re the marshmallow” Drac
“You taught me to look for the good in everything. And now I see that so much of the good in my life is because of you. ” Drac
“Nah, I just sent him a gif” Frankenstein
“I leave you alone for five minutes and you become a human!?” Eunice
“Really- blisters, sunburn, and swamp butt aren’t the worst?!” Drac
“All this- this is the old me. Your dad helped me leave that all behind.” Ericka
“Don’t sweat it- I love you inside and out.” Ericka
