Naomi, Melvin, Poppy, Gilbert, Curly, and their siblings are back at work making comics. Sarah Hatoff provides a running commentary as the tadpoles produce more masterpieces (and learn to clean their rooms). Humor abounds with life lessons as the various groups present new comics.
Cat Kid Comic Club 4 Review
Using a variety of mediums, and a variety of styles (most humorous but the poetry is serious) Pilkey presents short stories within the overall story. These individual comics are fun and entertaining, and as the host of this book, Sarah, talks to each of them about how they came up with their comic we find several life lessons. These would all be great for parents to discuss with kids.The only disappointing thing was that there was very little of Cat Kid. But the various tadpoles continue to learn about working together.
For the poetry, Summer, who is the photographer, laments that most of her photographs are not good but Sarah’s news photographer who is accompanying her tells Summer that a lot of his shots are not good either, and being a good photographer involves taking lots of photos, many of which will not be good.
We learn what a parody is, and some of the pitfalls of spinning a little too much time playing games on the phone. And in this comic Dog Man makes a guest appearance. But we also find out that being a good writer means accepting failing in order to succeed. We finish with a lesson in responsibility and all the tadpoles demonstrate a lot of generosity (add extra points if you catch the reference to It’s a Wonderful Life).

Final Thoughts on Cat Kid Comics 4
All the books in this series have been good, but this one hits it out of the park. In general, Pilkey does a fantastic job of combining humor, silliness, and instruction in his books. This is one of his best efforts. Kids will love it and it definitely is something for parents to discuss with kids.
