Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers Movie Review

-Is Rescue Rangers Appropriate for Younger Kids?

There are some adult jokes and references in this movie, but most of them, if not all of them will go over younger kids’ heads. The worst offenders include cheese representing drugs, and a gang who “bootlegs” beloved characters. Bootlegging includes taking a character, changing them, and then putting them in a knock-off of a popular movie, but it’s played up to make it scary. Overall, if your child can handle mild violence, and some mildly intense scenes, then they’ll be ok watching this movie.

-Characters & Acting-

John Mulaney and Andy Samberg were fantastic as Chip and Dale. Their voices perfectly match each of the characters, and they play well off each other. Seth Rogan and J.K. Simmons stand out from the rest of cast, they’re both amazing voice actors, and I especially appreciated Seth Rogan’s cameos as his many animated characters.

Kiki Layne was fine as Ellie, but I felt like her performance left a little to be desired, but that may be due to poor writing for her character. I felt like the other characters’ arches were also underwhelming, and the twist villain arch to be meh. However, I loved the development of Chip and Dale’s friendship, and watching them learn how to be friends again.

-Script & Story-

I was sold on this movie from the trailer, but I was still surprised that at how much I liked it. The story was a great lesson in the importance of friendship, and in having healthy conflict with your friends. The cameos really worked in this movie, to help move the story along and in developing the world of this movie.

-Film Quality-

The animation and live-action elements were seamlessly blended. Even the 2-D animation of Chip looked great against the live-action background. There was some pretty good cinematography. Each location looked great, with a lot of small details.
