Is Minions 2 The Rise of Gru Appropriate?

**SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT**

If you’re looking for pure, clean fun with no violence or bathroom humor, you’re probably not looking toward minions anyway. There is a lot of comical violence and bathroom humor of course. There’s some bullying both from Gru’s mother and classmates that could potentially be triggering. And the hijinks that the minions cause might be upsetting for some kids. There’s general mayhem and violence from their big road trip utilizing lots of different vehicles. The one thing that is a little different about this movie is the villains turning into giant, mean, animals. And while it is certainly done in a comical way, it might be a little scary for younger viewers.

Why Watch Minions: The Rise of Gru-

What we appreciate about the minions is the adorable little bananas never give up on entertaining your littles. For kids, most younger (8-12) will enjoy the humor. And there are shout-outs to the original Despicable Me (for instance, we learn how Gru met Dr. Nefario). While adults will enjoy the music and pick up references to other movies, it is a bit of a mixed bag.
