-What Happened to King T’Challa in the MCU-

This was the burning question on everyone’s minds after the tragic real-life passing of Chadwick Boseman, who played King T’Challa. Wakanda Forever wastes no time in answering this question as Shuri’s lab is frantically working to try to quickly find a cure to King T’Challa’s illness. WE are not told what the illness is exactly, but it is implied that it is directly affecting his DNA as that was the key to Shuri finding the cure. Queen Ramonda slowly enters the room which prompts Shuri to ask her AI what King T’Challa’s vitals are. The response leaves Shuri broken.

In a blurring between reality and fiction, there are a few hints at the fact that T’Challa had been dealing with this disease for a bit of time prior to informing Shuri. This reflects Chadwick’s fight against cancer, which was kept out of the public eye until his tragic death in 2020. Ultimately, many of these moments act as a wonderful memorial to a lost friend, who will never be forgotten.

-Why Watch Wakanda Forever-

Honestly, this would be a much shorter list if it was why you shouldn’t watch this movie. So, let’s dive into this great movie. Firstly, like we just mentioned, the handling of Chadwick’s passing was done very well. While honoring him, it also provides a place where fans can outlet some of their grief as well. But they don’t let this sit for too long as we do move the plot along while that grief does remain a subplot throughout the entire film. These moments of heartbreak are felt so deeply by Shuri who is simply broken after feeling like she failed her brother.

Letitia Wright and Angela Bassett were absolutely phenomenal in this film. The way they bounced back and forth between being broken and yet solid and certain in their principles was fantastic. Honestly, everyone in this movie had moments to shine, even some people who I wasn’t expecting to even see in this movie. The Wakanda Forever Soundtrack also provides so much depth and power to this movie especially to the very last scene.

We got a new MCU villain in Namor. This feels like just the beginning of his story and what a powerful start. Although he takes it to genocidal levels, his motives are understandable. This feels like the first big villain that we have had since Thanos and it is almost guaranteed that we will see him again in the MCU. We also got introduced to a new superhero in Riri Williams (Ironheart). Although it feels like we are just scratching the surface with her, Ironheart is set to get her own Disney Plus show at the end of 2023. Ultimately, we have a new Black Panther, a new superhero, and a new villain to see interact in in future films!

-Is Wakanda Forever Appropriate?-

This is a very wonderful movie, but that doesn’t mean that it will be appropriate for everyone in the family. This movie deals heavily with grief over many different people and some big characters do die on screen. There is also a relatively normal amount of superhero violence with fight and war scenes. One character is shown being stabbed through the abdomen, but is not overtly gruesome. Lastly, there is a bit of language, but nothing insanely inappropriate. If the viewer can handle the heavier emotions of this movie and the normal action scenes of a Marvel movie, you should definitely check this one out.

Favorite Wakanda Forever Quotes

I am Queen of the most powerful nation in the world! And my entire family is gone! Have I not given everything?

My ancestors would often say only the most broken people can be great leaders.

If I sit here and think about my brother too long, it won’t be the clothes that I burn but the world and everyone in it.

T’Challa is dead, but that doesn’t mean he’s gone.

What construct do you feel when you think of your brother? Does it offer you comfort or torment?

He was king and Black Panther to everyone. But to me he was everything.

The world has taken too much from you for you to still be considered a child.
