–Why Watch Wednesday-
If you are at all a fan of the Macabre or the Addams Family franchise, there is a VERY good chance you will enjoy this series. During the opening credits, the subtitles described the music as “jauntily macabre.” I think this phrase perfectly encapsulates this series. There is a lot of darkness, but it does have this energy that brings your into the world.
Ultimately, Wednesday is a murder mystery show. This pairs perfectly with the Addams family universe. It adds depth to the history of the members of the family while also showcasing the intellect of Wednesday herself. Although not everything goes according to plan, the journey to the end reveal is absolutely fantastic. Overall, as long as the viewer can handle the content of the show, they are in for a very fun ride.
-Is Wednesday Appropriate?-
As one may expect with the Addams family, Wednesday provides a very macabre atmosphere. Although some of it is done with humor and relatively lightly, there are moments of great darkness and horror. This is mostly seen in the scenes with the mysterious monster who brutally murders and takes body parts as trophies. Most of the actual violence is off screen, but the reactions and blood splatters are not. This is the main reason we would suggest only watching the series with older kids who can handle this level of gore and violence.
The other portion of Wednesday dives more into the teen drama aspect of things. There is a fair amount of language thrown about, but most of the truly biting remarks require no cuss words. There are also a few moments of implied sexuality, but no actual sex is shown or implied. Ultimately, if the viewer can handle the violence, these items take a backseat of importance.
