Quick Mutant Mayhem Summary

The turtles are back! In a slightly different take than the normal turtles story, all of them have a longing to simply feel accepted by the humans. Splinter won’t let them out due to the discrimination he has experienced in the past. When a big supervillain named Superfly starts robbing big tech items, the turtles find this as an opportunity to prove to the world that they aren’t dangerous.

Why Watch Mutant Mayhem

Mutant Mayhem provides a fun, modern take on the classic turtles. The basics are still there, but with a few modern tweaks here and there. One of my favorite things about this version is how young the turtles feel. They are all voiced by actual kids (who all do a fantastic job), which gives it such a fresh feel comparted to many of the other adaptations.

The storyline is pretty straight-forward with some great themes of acceptance and discrimination. All this is peppered with some fun (though sometimes pretty intense) action sequence and plenty of little quips and awkward jokes. I really liked the art style, but it may not be everybody’s cup of tea. It uses a combination of 2D and 3D animation that makes the world feel real without looking realistic.

Is Mutant Mayhem Appropriate for Kids?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is a fun movie, but there are a number of things that may mean you need to hold off for little ones. There is quite a bit of language throughout the film, though most of it comes from the main villain. There are two ‘damns’, a few ‘hells’, and a few other minor words that you may not want littles to know.

Being a superhero movie, you can expect a certain amount of violence. This movie is pretty normal for the most part and has just a few scenes that seem just a bit more brutal than others. There’s no blood, but during an explosion, one person does die and many other soldiers are hurt (some badly). There is also a small torture scene that is mostly played for comedy, but may be intense for younger viewers. This all culminates into a giant monster made of a conglomeration of mashed together animals.

Overall, this is a bit more intense than expected. If you are looking for a Turtles movie for younger viewers, you may be better of going with the 2007 TMNT movie.
