Quick Knuckles Show Summary

After the happenings of Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and its sequel, Knuckles is left as a warrior without a battle. Knuckles is then presented with the ultimate challenge in a man named Wade Whipple. Wade is at his lowest point in life after being replaced on a bowling team by an eight year old girl who beat him. But can Knuckles help Wade turn his life around and find the true warrior within?

Is the Knuckles Show Worth Watching?

The Positives

The Visuals

As we have come to expect from the Sonic movies (post Sonic correction), Knuckles keeps the very clean and pleasing graphics. The CGI is very pleasing from the fight scenes to the everyday movements of Knuckles and other applicable characters.

Idris Elba Returns

I was very concerned when I heard this would be a series as I wasn’t sure they would keep on the phenomenal voice of Idris Elba. Luckily, these fears were unfounded as Mr. Elba returns to play our favorite red echidna warrior!

Fun Video Game References

As in the Sonic movies, there are so many little nods to the beloved video game franchise throughout. Some of them are quite overt (Wade collecting rings while running through the Green Hills Zone) to the more subtle (the Ice Cap Ski Resort being a reference to the IceCap Zone from the video game, Sonic the Hedgehog 3)

Some Positive Messages

By the end of the series, there are quite a few heartwarming moments and messages. The main one is that we need to learn to support each other during hard times and allow others to help when needed.

The Negatives

Heavy Focus on Wade Whipple

Although Wade Whipple makes a good side character, he often takes the main character role within this show. This overall has the effect of making Knuckles feel like a secondary character and this brings the quality of the storytelling aspect of this series down considerably.

VERY Cheesy/Corny

Although the Sonic movies have there fair share of cheesy moments, this series takes it to a whole new level of corniness. For me personally, this show did at times cross that line of cheesiness and lessened my enjoyment of the show.

The Villains

After the fantastic performances from Jim Carrey, the villains in this show had a lot to live up to. At the end of the day, these villains are nothing special and just act as henchmen who could never conceivably get the job done.

Slight Dip in Quality of Plot and Script

Again, there were some positive moments and messages in this show, but it all came through a package of being overscripted. The conversations often felt very cartoonish, even the ones that seemed that they were supposed to be serious and heartfelt. The overall plot suffers to pack a punch at the climax of the show, despite theoretically being fulfilling.

Favorite Knuckles Show Quotes

He’s a…really big kid. With a huge imagination! Thinks he’s a warrior. Always training, questing. As well as stalking, hunting, and occasionally terrorizing. You know how kids are at that age.

For the first time, you can take a break from being a warrior and Earth is the perfect place to do that.

You are the last of the Echidnas. And so, the legacy of our people is in your hands.

I do not make jokes, Wade Whipple. I make warriors.

On a scale of one to warrior, you are a three.

You just picked a fight with the most dangerous warrior in the galaxy and I’m his favorite student.

Some things can’t be fixed even with big gloves.

Your father’s great at convincing people to love him and that’s usually when he decides to leave.

You have done some pretty terrible, terrible things in your life, but this is on another level.

I know I’m strong enough. Because all my life, I’ve learned from great warriors. I learned from a mother who never stopped fighting for her family. I learned from a sister, who’s honestly a little bit annoying, but amazingly fearless and headstrong.

You taught me how to stand up for myself and fight! And we’re stronger than ever now, because we fight together.

A warrior’s true strength comes from their heart and your heart has never been bigger!

Conclusion of “Is the Knuckles Show Worth Watching”

The Knuckles show has some positive going for it, but overall may underwhelm some. I think the main audience would be younger teens, if they can handle the cringy moments throughout. Sonic 3 is set to hit theaters in December and Wade is in the cast list. If you are a completionist or just want a very light comedy action movie, then this should be on your list.
