Quick Summary: Migo is a yeti who encounters a human-a “small foot”. The other yeti do not believe that humans exist and Migo is banished from his village. To redeem himself he searches for proof, and meets a disillusioned animal show host, Percy Patterson. Can this meeting save both of them? Yay for a movie the whole family can enjoy!
Discussion Questions:
1) The stonekeepers lie but they think it is for a good reason. What happens when you tell a lie? Do good things happen or bad things?
2) Have you or your friends become caught up in wanting more likes on your posts or more subscribers to your YouTube channel, like Percy did? (And for the younger ones this could be a warning for the future).
3) Why did Percy sacrifice himself for Migo?
4) Who was your favorite character?
5) What was the best part of the movie?
*) Be prepared to talk about the stones and how that compares to Christianity. Some might see this as anti-religion, but we see it as a great conversation starter!!
Thoughts from the Hobbit:
-I cried at the end. I have no idea what the intent of the producers was but this film contained profound Christian themes. The ends do not justify the means. There is such a thing as truth, we can find it, and it is important.
Self-sacrificing love is a good thing.
All of these fit with Christianity and are not popular in Western society.
-It is a mostly clean film and not overly scary! The first film to hit theaters in a while that fits that bill.
Thoughts from the Queen:
-The kids we were with really enjoyed this movie. I was not the intended audience and thought it was cute. I agree with the Hobbit that the themes of truth, friendship and sacrificial love were well represented. I did feel a little angst at the talk of “the stones being wrong” but this really depends on how you interpret their meaning or what the producer’s intent was. Crosswalk’s review, however, pointed out that Christianity can withstand tough questions and our children should ask them.
