Godmothered Review:
*Light Spoilers*
– Is Godmothered appropriate? –
Godmothered is a very appropriate and cute film. There is a subplot about a father who passed away a few years past and a few minor drug and alcohol references. No language warnings from us. The only other thing we would warn is that viewers under the age of 8 may get a bit bored due to the pacing and style of the film.
– Parent Review of Godmothered –
Reminiscent of Enchanted, Godmothered is similarly cheesy and positive while taking a stab at the traditional fairy tale ideal. It also has small animated moments in a world of mostly live action film. The story is sweet with a lot of funny moments. There are definitely some things that I could nitpick about the story and script- but overall it made me smile so much that, even after a second watching, nothing sticks out.
The people and their relationships are far more relatable than most Disney characters. I found myself relating to Eleanor, Mackenzie, Jane and Paula at different points in the movie. And everyone was well cast! The acting was wonderful and the younger actresses held their ground, which isn’t just impressive- it also reinforces the movie’s point that you can be young and go after your dreams.
And while the graphics will probably look a little outdated ten years from now, like Enchanted. It is still a really well shot movie that is weaved together beautifully in a distinctly Disney way.
Most importantly, the movie is packed with relatable lessons and character growth! Check out our lessons from Godmothered below!
5 Lessons from Godmothered
*Spoilers*
1) Being young and inexperienced doesn’t mean you can’t learn, adapt and succeed. None of the characters are really ready for their dreams, Mackenzie cant even admit that she has a dream. But we’ll never really be prepared enough, so we have to keep taking steps and leaps in the direction we want to be going. It was an inspiring lesson that I was not expecting!
2) You don’t need anyone else to believe in your dream, but it’s so lifegiving to both give and receive encouragement! Mackenzie, Jane and Eleanor all are perfectly capable to achieve their dreams on their own, but they really soar when they encourage and help each other.
3) Success requires acknowledging when you’re wrong and taking initiative to change. While pretty much every character in the movie has to acknowledge that they were mistaken at some point, the best lesson is from Moira at the end when she celebrates that there was a new and better way to do things. “Maybe it’s time to re-write the book!”
4) You can be kind while also standing up for yourself and your dreams. Mackenzie and Hugh show us this with their work situation but Eleanor and Jane also learn this through stepping out into their own brave adventures!
5) Living happily ever after doesn’t look the same for everyone. But happy people share some things in common: Love, Gratefulness, and Hope! I just loved the ending of this movie and how they emphasized all the good things!! And the musical number was grand!
So, do you need a prince or fairy godmother to find your happily ever after and live your dreams?! Nope (I mean- they don’t hurt)!! But a good community, love and a little hope go a long way!!
One of our favorite parts of the movie was Gary! What about you?! Tell us in the comments below!
