Quick Summary of Tom and Jerry 2021 Movie
Tom and Jerry are back to jump straight back into the world of slapstick comedy. In this movie, Tom and Jerry had not met before, but when they get the opportunity to sleep in a fancy hotel, they will fight tooth and nail to make sure they keep the right to stay. A newly hired woman is tasked with getting rid of them in order to prepare for the wedding of the century.

-Is Tom and Jerry appropriate?-
As long as the viewer can handle the typical violence found in most Tom and Jerry cartoons, this movie should be perfectly fine for most kids. There are some mildly chaotic moments of destruction and yelling, but none of it crosses into the line of inappropriateness- that being said, I wouldn’t watch it with my 3 year old.
–Why Watch Tom and Jerry-
Tom and Jerry is a fun movie that brings back the classic characters from the 1940s. There is a relatively simple, but very enjoyable plot in which Tom and Jerry continuously bring the seemingly peaceful story into a crashing ball of chaos. This will most likely play well with younger viewers as it is something that will keep them interested, while also pushing the characters and plot along.
-Plot/Characters-
The plot of Tom and Jerry is very character driven. We meet Kayla who has recently quit her job and needs to find a new opportunity. Then we meet Tom who is dreaming of being a famous musician and Jerry who is just wanting money to live in a new house. When Kayla gets the opportunity to work at a fancy hotel it’s taken advantage of through shenanigans. Tom and Jerry use her to stay in the hotel. The rest of the story follows Kayla as she tries to prepare the hotel for a large, famous wedding while Tom and Jerry make mayhem. It culminates with Kayla helping unite the married couple and working with Tom and Jerry.
We think that the lesson from the movie is supposed to be to not judge people based on their resume. With that said, Kayla’s storyline is a bit off to me. As she continues to mess things up and cause thousands of dollars of damage through his mismanagement, she is still hired on at the end of the movie. I think the lesson is important, but I think they undercut their own story. It would have been better if they had built up Kayla as a character a bit more before introducing Tom and Jerry. And I’ve seen lots of complaints about Tom and Jerry needing more screen time, but we thought it was a good balance.
Tom and Jerry 2021 Movie Final Thoughts
Overall, Tom and Jerry, despite a few underwhelming plot points, is still a very fun watch for the family. And it does have some good lessons when it comes to relationships and friendships. From the opening joke to the post-credits scene, there were so many great laughs and classic Tom and Jerry moments. Warner Bros. Pictures, Tim Story, cast & crew managed to bring the classic characters back to life in a hilarious live-action setting that didn’t miss a single beat.
