Quick The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse Summary
A Boy, a Mole, a Fox, and a Horse meet each other and discuss thoughts and questions about life. The style is very unique in both content and style as the entire story is basically conversation between four characters as they contemplate friendship and life.
The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse Review
The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse is not a story in the conventional sense. It is a collection of conversations between the four characters bound together by a loose narrative. There is no traditional character development – we don’t know, for example, where the boy comes from. The four characters simply talk and learn from each other. As they talk, they discover things about life, love, friendship, family, and kindness that we all know, but that we all also easily forget. So, this is a book of philosophy, of moral instruction, more than it is a story. But it is one that will appeal to almost any reader.
There are over 100 primarily black and white drawings that go with these conversations.
The book is not explicitly religious, but the messages within are ones that, if you are religious, will draw you closer to God (and provide food for thought).
Why Read The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse
This is a short read (about ten minutes) that works for a six-year-old or a sixty-year-old. The drawings are beautiful (some of the horse at the end in particular). It is a gentle reminder to slow down and value the friendships that we have. It is a reminder that kindness and love are really important. All of these are things that have been strained over the past year (and honestly human nature is such that reminders such as this book are always going to be needed).
The Boy the Mole the Fox and the Horse Quotes

‘Asking for help isn’t giving up,’ said the horse. ‘It’s refusing to give up.”
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” “Kind”, said the boy.”
“Always remember you matter, you’re important and you are loved, and you bring to this world things no one else can.”

‘Who am I?’ asked the boy. ‘You are loved’ said the horse”
“I am truly tiny’ said the mole. ‘The love inside you,’ said the boy ‘is as big as the universe.”
“Nothing beats kindness,’ said the horse. ‘It sits quietly beyond all things.”
“Home isn’t always a place is it?”
“Isn’t it odd. We can only see our outsides, but nearly everything happens on the inside”
“Doing nothing with friends is never doing nothing, is it?’ asked the boy. ‘No,’ said the mole.”
“This is easily my favourite place’ said the mole. ‘Why?’ asked the boy. ‘Because you are all here,”
“What do you think success is?” asked the boy. “To love,” said the mole.”
