To Know Before You Go:

Movie: Avengers Endgame
Rating: PG-13
Age Suggestion: A mature 10+ (If they could sit through Infinity War- they can handle this)
Running Time: 3 hours
Release Date: 4/26/2019
Stars: 4 ½ out of 5
Themes: Heroism, Friendship, Grief, Loyalty
Trigger Warnings: This is a very typical addition to the Marvel universe as far as themes and violence. If nothing triggered you or your child in the first two Avengers movies, than you should be good to go for this movie.

Quick Summary: Picking up after the massive losses of the Infinity war, the scattered Avengers are grieving their losses and figuring out how to go forward. How do you cap off the first wildly successful Avengers franchise? This film is made for the fans. Five of our team went. Some of us are diehard fans and some have only seen an occasional movie. We all felt like it was a truly well done movie that was worth our time and emotional energy. Parents should know that if your child could sit through Infinity War without squirming or being afraid- you should be set for this one! But it is a little over three hours in a theater! It was an amazing decade of movies from Marvel and we’ve had some great conversations over them.

Unlike with other Marvel movies there are NO post credit scenes.

Thoughts:

-This movie was amazing!

-But it is a LOT to process!! There were SO many references, so many different plot lines to follow. It was amazing to us how well everything was tied together and wrapped up.

-The scene we all talked about the most was when everyone re-appeared to help the Avengers when they felt like they had been beaten yet again. Reaffirming the strength of perseverance and goodness.

-With a movie that’s wrapping up a decade long run you are going to have characters that don’t get as much screen time as you would want and some that got more than you thought they should. But the directors balanced this pretty well in our opinion. It was a fitting send off for the originals and it did feel like the torch had been passed, in a way, to the younger generation.

-The acting was amazing. The cinematography was beautiful. The fight scenes were engaging. The emotional scenes were just as engaging.

-I think the best compliment that we can give the movie was that we did not see everything coming and it did not feel like it was 3 hours long.

-How they wrapped up this decade long phase of the original Avengers was contenting and it did not have to be.

-But we have lots of questions… like you do with any time travel movie… or movie that ends a decade long arc. What happened with Agent Carter and Daniel Sousa? Is this just a completely different timeline? Where is Loki now? And Gamora? And why didn’t we see a Flerken in this movie?… Oh the questions.

It contented these fans while also keeping us on the hook for future movies- what a great movie!

  1. Wholeheartedly agree! It most definitely kept going, did not feel like 3 hours at all and it was great to see the character interaction and nods to past Avengers movies. I will probably go see it again just to try and catch anything I may have missed the first go round!

    • Yes! We definitely want to see it again!
There were SO many little nods to former movies and things to process!
      Thanks for commenting!

  2. Great review! I loved the Thor arc, rockin’ the dad bod and then flying off with the Guardians! Hilarious! Great, great, great movie.

Definitely did not see that Thor arc coming and it definitely was hilarious.
It really was an amazingly fitting end to the first phase of the Avengers!
