There are so many 2020 summer reading programs this year and so many rewards to get excited about. The best part- YOU CAN DO THIS FROM HOME! This list should help you decide where to start reading and set up a fun reading structure for your kiddos for this summer!

Your Local Public Library

There are always amazing summer reading programs at your local libraries. Some of them may be digital or physical. Check with your local library’s website or call for more information and to see if they have a virtual summer reading program.

If you are in the DFW area, here are some recommendations for us:

Smart Summer (Dallas)
Imagine Your Story (Wylie) -This program also has rewards for ADULTS!
McKinney Summer Reading Program
Minute Read Challenge (Plano)

Scholastic Read-a-Palooza

              Perhaps on of the largest children’s book publishers has one of the most popular summer reading programs! No matter where you live you can enter this program. But hurry, all entries must be entered by September 4th.

Barnes and Noble

              If you have a local Barnes and Noble, you can join in their program. Completed journals are due to your local store between 7/1/20-8/31/20.

Book It (Pizza Hut)

             Who doesn’t love free Pizza! Enter into their digital dashboard for June, July, and August in order to redeem your book reading into some great Pizza Hut pizza! (You guys- I remember being excited about this one as a kid!! Did anyone else do this with the little metal badges?!)

Feed Your Brain (Half Price Books)

              Half Price Books is offering a unique 2020 Reading program. They are doing a 15 Minutes a day of reading for June and July. The website also contains coloring sheets for younger kids. Be sure to make sure that you have a local Half Price Books store in order to go in and receive prizes!

Lifeway Summer R.E.A.D

             Lifeway is challenging kids to read 6 books and memorize 6 bible verses. They begin rewards in July and will accept entries until August 31, 2020.

4 Books for #4 Summer Reading Challenge

Ashley Furniture and Deshaun Watson (Quarterback for the Houston Texans) have teamed up for the 4 books for #4 summer reading challenge. Participants must read at least four books by August 10th for a chance to win a $5,000 Ashley HomeStore room makeover and private meet-and-greet with Deshaun Watson. To enter, text READ4 to 797979

H-E-Buddy Reading

              Participants must read 10 books and keep them in a reading log in order to receive a free t-shirt. Return logs must be postmarked by October 1, 2020. This program is only for kids between the ages of 3-12. Can be mailed.    

Books-a-Million

              Books-a-Million has partnered with Reading Ambassador Dav Pilkey (Author of Dog Man and Captain Underpants). If you have a local Books-a-Million, participants will need to read 4 books from a pre-selected list and return completed book log to receive a free hat (While Supplies Last). Amazon Books Retail Stores

             To participate in this program, kids must read any 8 books and return by September 2nd (in store) in order to receive a Star Reader Certificate that allows $1 off your next book purchase at Amazon Books. This is only valid for one per child up to 14 years old or 8th grade.

KCEdventures Genre Challenge

              Although not an official reading program, KCEdventures provides Summer Reading programs that you can print off and use for your own reward based programs at home.

Chuck E. Cheese

              Chuck E. Cheese provides several opportunities for getting rewarded tokens. From potty training to Super Student rewards. It’s definitely worth taking a look and seeing what may be applicable for you child.

Sync for Teens

             Also not a summer reading program, but is worth mentioning. Every Summer, Sync provides free audiobooks for Teens. A great way to read some fun books while enjoying some fun summer activities.

Finding Books Online

Want to find free books? Check out your local library! Most have free curbside pickup right now, they might also have online platforms! You can find some great book videos on Storyline Online. You can also find free books through Kindle and Nook too!
