2019 Family Flicks to Look Out For! (And the best of 2018)

Believe it or not, 2019 is here at last.  There are a ton of blockbusters scheduled to come out this year.  We wanted to make a quick list of all the major kids/youth movies (aimed at 18 and under) you can watch with your family (Or go to in order to take a break from your family). Let us know which ones you are looking forward to the most!!

Before we jump into that, we are going to go through a few of our favorite movies from 2018 in case you missed them…

The Kid Who Would Be King
* Release Date: January 25, 2019
* Rating: PG
* Brief description: A modern day retelling of the story of King Arthur.  A boy has to lead an army of kids in order to take down a medieval foe.

Lego Movie 2: The Second Part
* Release Date: February 8, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG
* Brief description: Taking place five years after the original, the Lego community now has to figure out how to deal with the new Duplo invaders.

How to Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World
* Release Date: February 22, 2019
* Rating: PG
* Brief description: Toothless finds love, but a danger hides right behind the corner.  This will be the last movie in the How to Train Your Dragon series.

Wonder Park
* Release Date: March 15, 2019
* Rating: PG
* Brief description: June is a little girl whose imagination is taken to new heights in the setting of a large amusement park.

Dumbo
* Release Date: March 29, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG
* Brief description: A remake of the Disney classic from 1941.  The story of a young elephant who is mocked for his appearance.  They will learn that appearance isn’t always what it seems.

Missing Link
* Release Date: April 12, 2019
* Rating: PG
* Brief description: Mr. Link is looking for his long lost relatives and brings along and explorer and an adventurer. 

Aladdin (Live Action)
* Release Date: May 24, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG
* Brief description: A live action remake of the Disney classic from 1992.  We will probably see a few tweaks (especially with the Genie), but should hold true to the original

The Secret Life of Pets 2
* Release Date: June 7, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG
* Brief description: The plot is currently unknown. Some great names are coming back (Including Kevin Hart, Patton Oswalt) and some new names are added to the cast (Including Tiffany Haddish)

Toy Story 4
* Release Date: June 21, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG
* Brief description: Not much is known about the plot of Toy Story.  It can be assumed that we will pick up where we left off in Toy Story 3 and we will also probably laugh a lot (and cry a little)


The Lion King (Live Action)
* Release Date: July 19, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG
* Brief description: A live action remake of the Disney classic from 1994.  With James Earl Jones and Donald Glover in the cast, this movie should be just as fun as the original.

Angry Birds Movie 2
* Release Date: August 16, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG
* Brief description: This is a sequel to the original from 2016.  The plot is currently unknown.

Abominable
* Release Date: September 27, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG
* Brief description: A Yeti looks to return to his family.

Sonic the Hedgehog
* Release Date: November 8, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG
* Brief description: Sonic is looking to escape the government of Green Hills who are seeking his capture

Frozen 2
* Release Date: November 22, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG
* Brief description: The plot is currently unknown.  A few things can be considered a guarantee: an exciting new story with Anna and Elsa, a fun time with Sven and Olaf, and a bunch of songs that your kids will never stop singing


For the older kids and adults (13 and up)

Captain Marvel
* Release Date: March 8, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG-13
* Brief description: Taking place in the 90s, Carol Danvers becomes one of the universe’s most powerful superheroes

Shazam
* Release Date: April 5, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG-13
* Brief description: A 14 year old boy receives the ability to turn into adult superhero, Shazam.

Avengers 4
* Release Date: May 3, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG-13
* Brief description: Ashes to ashes, dust to…..

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu
* Release Date: May 10, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG
* Brief description: An intelligent Pikachu seeks to be a detective in a world where Pokemon are collected for battle

Spider-man: Far from Home
* Release Date: July 5, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG-13
* Brief description: This will follow the adventures of Peter Parker after the events of Avengers 4.

Artemis Fowl
* Release Date: August 9, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG (May be PG-13)
* Brief description: A criminal mastermind looks to kidnap a fairy for ransom in order to find his missing father.

Star Wars: Episode IX
* Release Date: December 20, 2019
* Rating: Expected PG-13
* Brief description: The conclusion of the story between Rey and Kylo.

  1. Oh my goodness, too many! Lol. Mostly Toy Story 4 (even though I’m sure I’ll cry), Captain Marvel, Avengers 4, and Star Wars Ep IX. Good movie year to look forward to again!
