3 Thoughts from the Hobbit (The Star Review):

  1. There is some artistic license in the storytelling, but this movie has its heart (and imagination) in the right place. And – after all, with talking animals you have to have some artistic license.
  2. And speaking of those talking animals – what kid does not love talking animals? I love talking animals!
  3. There is a lovely mix of the holy and the humorous. I teared up when the animals all bowed at the manger, and there were several places I felt a sense of awe.

3 Thoughts from the Elf (The Star Review):

  1. This is a beautifully designed movie with excellent visuals, storytelling and music that reminds us of the redemptive magic that should really be at the heart of Christmas.
  2. My favorite Christmas song is “Oh Holy Night” and they used that during the pinnacle scene of the movie- the birth of Christ! And while Josh Groban’s version is my favorite, Yolanda Adams has a pretty amazing voice!
  3. Also, the casting is so great!! Having an all star cast for “The Star” makes me smile(punny anyone?). I love that you can totally recognize some of the voices and how well they fit with the characters! Oprah voices a wise camel, Kristin Chenoweth voices an exuberant mouse, and watching Zachary Levi’s portrayal of Joseph made me think of Joseph as a mix of Chuck and Flynn Rider. You’ve got voices from the Walking Dead and Saturday Night Live starring in a movie about how JESUS SAVES! Really? What more could I ask for!! I felt like EVERY voice fit the characters.
