Warnings: Slightly scary imagry but nothing that is more scary than the TV show. The humor is very similar to the first movie and it is not super offensive.

Quick Summary:
Poppy and Branch are out on another adventure. Queen Poppy will stop at nothing to unite all of the different trolls they’ve just discovered. But are all the new types of music just too different?
This sparkly, music-filled, adventure is very similar to the first movie. It’s a bit more quickly paced with a fun variety of songs. The lessons seemed aimed at the adults more than the kids, but there are still plenty of good discussion points. It’s not the most amazing thing to hit the screens this year, but it’s a fun Easter treat that we think is worth renting for family movie night. A bright spot of positivity, joy and harmony that was worth renting for me.

3 Lessons from Trolls World Tour:

1) Harmony is not everyone singing the same thing at the same time. Our differences are something to celebrate.
2) Listening to your friends is important. Even when you think you are right and they are wrong. You can’t be united with others if you aren’t even able to listen to their point of view.
3) There are lots of things that unite us even though we are all different. We have to be brave enough to seek those things out even when it makes us uncomfortable.

Parent Review of Trolls World Tour:

-Characters & Acting:
I enjoyed all of the voice acting. They did a great job with these characters. There were a few that I wished had a little more screen time, but it was very well done overall. Poppy and Branch had some good character development but there wasn’t a whole lot of depth outside of that.
-Script & Story:
The story was fluffy and fast paced. It felt more like a couple of episodes of the TV show rather than a full length movie. It wasn’t amazing, but it was a good cartoon. What I most appreciate about the Trolls movies is that the humor will make the adults laugh, but it’s also not all potty humor or too inappropriate for a younger audience. I also appreciated the nod to Avengers (collecting the strings vs. collecting the stones to change the world). The only thing that I was really hoping for that they did not have was a really nice multi-genre medley, the last song was great- but not a spotlight for each of the genres that we were hoping for. That being said- it’s still stuck in my head.
-Film Quality:
Their were a lot of really fun visuals in this movie that were very artistic. With the Trolls movies and series, the colors and visuals tell the story as much as the script does. The animation is on par with other animated movies coming out right now.
-Final Thoughts:
I was more impressed than I thought I would be. It was a fun, feel good movie that I really enjoyed. (I also liked the first movie- if you did not, you might not feel the same way.)
I don’t think this soundtrack will take off quite like the last one did, but the music is good. The new song at the end, while not the song of the summer, is still a really sweet and fun song.
My favorite quote from the movie was from Poppy at the very end. “You have to be able to listen to other voices, even when they don’t agree with you. They make us stronger, more creative and more inspired. It’s all our differences that make the world a better place, because you can’t harmonize alone.”
