Discussion Questions

1) If you had the ability of super speed, what is the first thing you would do?
2) Have you ever felt lonely? What has been the best way to fight loneliness?
3) Dr. Robotnik shows off his genius throughout the entire film. If he was so smart, why didn’t he win? (Push home the point of teamwork and humility)
4) Would you rather be the sheriff in a small town where everyone knows each other or a big city with adventure? Why?

Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Review

Sonic The Hedgehog Review
Characters & Acting:

-The cast selection for this movie was pretty spot on. Ben Schwarz played the slightly immature, but very funny Sonic from our childhoods quite well. James Marsden and Tika Sumpter played off of the Sonic character very well!
-Most importantly, Jim Carrey was able to shine throughout this movie. There were tastes of his comic greatness from The Riddler, The Mask, and a bit of Ace Ventura. All of this while bringing his own spin on the charater of Dr. Robotnik.

Script & Story:

-The plot isn’t anything too crazy, but this movie was able to tell a simple, emotional story in a very effective way. Giving Sonic a backstory was appreciated, but they also played it smart by not digging into it too deeply.
-There are several small things that come together to show great character development in many of the characters. One of those is the story of how Sonic got his iconic red shoes.

Film Quality:

-The CGI quality of this movie was pretty top notch. This is something that would have been hard to believe if you saw the first trailer. They were able to make the necessary corrections and presented a beautiful film. If you want to see a side by side video of the before and after visual effects, click here!

Favorite Moments

-The general humor throughout the film was done very well. Also, seeing Tom find out his own meaning as a sheriff and truly finding his purpose was very well done.
-The last ten minutes held so much nostalgia for me personally. Firstly, seeing Dr. Robotnik come into his “True form” and secondly, TAILS!

Is This the Best Video Game Movie?

This movie was able to take a beloved video game franchise and turn it into a quite enjoyable, fun film. I would suggest this movie to pretty much anyone who enjoyed children’s movies, whether or not they grew up with the original video game series.

There are two possibilities for best video game movie to me. This one is a contender, but I also think Detective Pikachu deserves to be in the mix. You can check out our review of Detective Pikachu here!

What was your favorite part of this Film? What video game series would you like to see turned into a movie?
