Know Before You Watch:

*This is an early at home release. You can rent it for $20 or buy it for $25 here on Prime Video Cinema! If you don’t like the price, wait a few months until it comes out on DVD- but this cheaper than taking the whole family to the theater!*

Movie: Scoob
Rating: PG
Age Suggestion:  PG, 7+
Running Time: 2 hours
Release Date: Pre-Release 5/15/2020
Themes: Friendship,
Warnings: There are several phrases that you would not want constantly repeated. Some of the jokes are crude and there are a lot of clever allusions to four letter words (EG: the falcon bombs are called f-bombs). There are a few slightly scary scenes and suspenseful moments. None of the scenes or monsters are any scarier than the original series and there are very few jump scares.

5 minute review from the Elf

Scoob Quick Summary:

The Mystery Inc. gang is ready for some bigger work. And a bigger mystery with bigger monsters is what they get! Will they be able to stop Dick Dastardly before he unleashes terror on the world?! Much truer to the original series than the newer shows or movies- Scoob is a fun watch and a good intro to the series for kids who haven’t seen any Scooby Doo before. We had so much fun watching classic Scoob in a modern movie.

Scoob Parent Review:

-Characters & Acting:
So many fun voices in this movie! Scooby is voiced by Frank Welker who has previously voiced both Fred and Scooby in other Mystery Inc. projects. Will Forte was a wonderful voice choice for Shaggy. Gina Rodriguez plays a great Velma and Amanda Seyfried voices Daphne so well! Zac Effron plays Fred really well too! The whole gang was excellently cast- both young and adult voices. Other voices you might recognize- Tracy Morgan, Kiersey Clemons, Mark Wahlberg, and Simon Cowell!

-Script & Story:
My one and only complaint about the story is that rarely are the monsters in Scooby Doo real monsters and the mysterious are usually, well, a little more mysterious than this one. However, they did have really clever nods to unmasking the villain that I really appreciated and thought were funny. Overall though we thought it was a really well done, light and fun story! Focused on the lesson that friendships are always important- this is a great family movie night watch. The story stays true to the mystery inc. gang as you would have seen them in the Scooby Doo Where Are You days (but now with cell phones ;] ). It’s a light mystery, a lesson and a reminder that you always need your friends with you- the best of what Scooby Doo represents.

-Film Quality:
I thought the animation on everything was very well done. We LOVED all the visual throwbacks to the old mysteries- SOOO wonderfully added!! The only part of the animation that stood out was Simon Cowell’s face did not look the same as the other human characters in our opinion. The monsters, super heroes and action scenes were especially impressive.

Favorite Moments:
~The whole Simon Cowell storyline was hilarious and so clever!
~All of the visual references and mentions of past cases!
~Including the Scooby-Doo Where Are You theme song! That one made my heart so happy!
~I really enjoyed the humor in this one more than expected!

3 Lessons from Scoob

1) We all need friends who can count on us and that we can count on.
2) You can be brave and a hero even, and most especially, when you’re scared!
3) We should always help others. When Velma helped the bad robot, he ended up being a good robot and helping them in the end!
