Secret Society of Second Born Royals Review: (May Contain Spoilers)
–Why Watch It-
Secret Society of Second Born Royals is a fun movie with an intriguing plot with some fun characters. The plot in parts is fairly predictable, but still offers some fun twists that some people may not see coming. It is around the same quality as most Disney channel movies, similar to Descendants but it is not a musical. I think it will be most enjoyed by kids ages 8-12.
-Is Secret Society of Second Born Royals appropriate?-
Besides some mild violence, there isn’t much in this movie that is inappropriate. There are some heavy topics that could be difficult for some kids such as death of a parent and dealing with loneliness. Overall, most kids over the age of eight should not have any problem with this movie.
-Plot-
The plot of this movie is relatively straight forward with a few fun detours here and there. Despite some predictability, it still manages to stay interesting throughout the entire film. I think they did a very good job at providing a really easily predictable plot point while hiding a bigger twist right behind it. Overall, Secret Society of Second Born Royals is a very fun watch.
-Characters-
This movie is carried by its cast. Each character adds so much more depth and fun to this story. This becomes especially true when each character learns more about their powers and how they work. Everyone has to go through some form of trial to improve themselves and hone in their skills. It’s a forced character development, but it is also quite effective for the overall story. The dynamics between all of the characters in the film is great and really brings everything together.
-What we loved about it-
There is honestly quite a bit to like about this movie with a pretty solid storyline. It is a great coming of age story with a mystery plot and superpowers!
On top of this, the characters are well written and all develop interestingly throughout the movie. The main team really shines during much of the movie, but even smaller characters are given some time to reveal their intentions and beliefs.
Lastly, the overlying theme of your beliefs mattering is very interesting. Sam and her uncle ultimately have the same goal in mind, but her uncle’s method of getting there is very violent while she wants a peaceful transition of power from the monarchy to the people.
