The Sleepover Quick Summary:

Everyone else has a phone and can go to parties, except for Clancy. (Which I thought was a cute reference to Tom Clancy Spy Novels.) Her mom is the most boring, strict, and frustrating parent ever! Or is she?! Clancy and her brother Kevin, with their friends, go an epic quest to rescue their parents who are on a secret spy mission. No one’s going to be sleeping on this sleepover…

It’s a cute, and fairly clean, family comedy. While not particularly deep or unique, it’s engaging and ends well. A fun family movie night pick that the kids will probably want to stream again.

-Is The Sleepover on Netflix Appropriate?:

There is a lot of kid movie level violence. Also lots of OMG’s, ‘sucks’, name calling, etc… It’s pretty clean but the biggest thing is the suspense! The few scary scenes and suspenseful moments might be too much for younger kids. It’s very family and kid friendly, but with the level of suspense, I would say 10 plus is a safe age range.

-Characters & Acting:

All of the characters were done well. I thought that all of the kid actors did a really great job! The dad was really great comedic relief for the adult plot line and the kids friends were great comedic relief for the kid plot line.

-Script & Story:

It wasn’t particularly unique; ‘hey kids, mom’s really a spy!’. And there wasn’t great character development plus a few plot holes and totally unrealistic moments. Overall though the story was really fun. I laughed several times and I didn’t immediately know what the twist was going to be. It was a fun, family night movie watch that I’m sure the kids will want to watch several more times. It’s a feel good story!

Favorite Moments:

*I loved the scene where they were all apologizing to and encouraging each other.
*When Lewis’ parents came to pick him up.
*Siblings working together! (I didn’t know I had to be a former spy to accomplish this, but I’m willing to try to make that a real life thing! LOL!)
*The final bad guy chase scene.
