Quick Summary of Full Out 2

The OU gymnastics team came ridiculously close to winning the national championships last year but this year, victory looks a lot closer! Well, that is until something happens that changes the team and super impacts their performance. Will they be able to overcome? Can they learn anything from athletes in other fields?

If you have kids that are dancers or gymnasts, or you just love a good, inspiring, story- you need to stream this movie. A lot! This is the type of family friendly artist/ athlete movie we want more of, especially on Netflix! (Not the only platform you can stream it on!)

Full Out 2 Parent Review:

-Is Full Out 2 Appropriate?-

This is a very mild movie with nothing to note that would be scary or offensive. There’s one very respectful and innocent relationship portrayed. Some of the wardrobe might be more revealing than your typical Y7 movie. But not much more is shown than your typical gymnastics leotards. It is definitely on the cheesy side- but goodness am I ready for more appropriate, cheesy, happy, inspiring and empowering movies! And if you want more of this type of movie to stream on platforms like Netflix, you need to stream it multiple times to let them know what you favor!

-Our Overall Full Out 2 Review-

*It’s a super family friendly, lower budget film. It’s cheesy, but also full of heart and great lessons! There aren’t a lot of dance or gymnast videos that I can think of that are appropriate for all age groups and that give the kids some real life role models to look up to and this movie does more than that!

*Are you a Netflix subscriber that was upset about the streaming service playing the movie ‘Cuties’?! (A dance movie that’s goal was to point out how society oversexualizes children and dancers, but in doing so ended up oversexualizing child actors/actresses) If so- than you need to stream this movie multiple times on Netflix to let them know that you want more of this family friendly type content. Streams mean more than any petition- that’s why we encouraged people to believe others reviews about Cuties and not stream it themselves. We understand that you want to see and judge something for yourself- but streams and social media discussions are what signal a success to a streaming service. So if you enjoy this, stream it- tag it- talk about it!

-We were really impressed with the acting and plot as a whole. And excited to find out that it was based on a true story (& that so many gymnasts got to participate in the movie!). The script was cringe-worthy-cheesy and over inspiring in places, but personally I’m all for that- especially this year and for my kids!

-5 Things We LOVED About Full Out 2-
**SPOILERS INCLUDED**

1) Supporting People Over Competition

The girls on the team support each other on and off the gym floor. And when Brenna decides to go for her Olympic dreams, they support and encourage her. Chayse befriends Riley and it ends up serving them both well. In a world that’s so focused on self- it’s important to remind ourselves and our kids that encouraging and empowering other people is just as important as working hard on your own dream. Community is vital to success. The movie ALSO encourages you to GO FOR YOUR dreams too! And I love that I can talk to my girls about Brenna’s real life story. She may not have reached that Olympic gold but she still has, not only a move named after her but also, a ton of gold medals and awards!

2) You can learn from and enjoy other athletics/ artistic ventures

The dancers helped the gymnasts and the gymnasts helped the dancers. AJ enjoyed art. Chayse enjoyed and learned from break dance. Riley learned from the gymnasts. I love that the coach made learning from another department part of their training. It was also great that it featured the importance of Natalie and Chelsea teaching and pouring into younger kids.

3) DIVERSITY!

I was SO excited to see Chelsea Werner in this movie- a very accomplished Special Olympian and all around inspiring person! We don’t have enough representation for differently abled people- especially in athletic movies. Different abilities and body types were represented! We also loved that this was an inspiring girl power story. The majority of the cast is white, but we were so happy to see that there was a lot of racial diversity in the cast as well. This is the type of inclusive and diverse movie I want my kids seeing on TV!

4) It featured OU gymnasts and some special appearances by many award winning gymnasts

Stick around until the credits role and you’ll see the actors dancing by their real life counterparts! The award winning real life team is featured and does stunts in the movie- Sydney Cope plays gymnast Chayse Capps, Liza Wilks plays gymnast Brenna Dowell, Braedyn Bruner plays Natalie Brown, and Billie D. Merritt plays AJ Jackson. Riley is played by Logan Edra who is a world famous dancer! And Chelsea Werner plays herself.

5) It’s super appropriate, but that doesn’t make it any less engaging!

Need I say more? It’s an appropriate, family- friendly, movie that’s also empowering! Did we all love it, no. But we all enjoyed it and acknowledged the importance of these types of movies. And that we want to see more of them. I loved it and will absolutely be streaming it multiple times with my kids!
