Quick Muppets Haunted Mansion Summary
Gonzo has been invited to spend the night at the Haunted Mansion where a hundred years ago, Gonzo’s idol The Great McGuffin went missing. To prove himself, Gonzo undertakes a spooky night with his friend Pepe as Gonzo learns the value of being content in who he is. There are tons of Haunted Mansion references. If you have never gotten the chance to take a ride around the Haunted Mansion, then I recommend watching a ride-through so that you can have a deeper understanding of all the craziness going on around you!
Muppets Haunted Mansion Review **mild spoilers**
–Is The Muppets Haunted Mansion Appropriate?-
The general vibe of the movie is spooky and little scary, so if that isn’t something your family likes, then this one isn’t for you. It still has the goofy antics of the Muppets, but with a darker twist. There is one jumpscare at minute 14. There’s also a scary sequence where Gonzo starts aging quickly. As the movie progresses, the tone gets a little darker, but some of the scary stuff will probably go over some kids’ heads. With that in mind, some kids below 9 will absolutely be able to handle it, but we’re suggesting 9 plus because of the darker animation and jump scares.

-Characters & Acting-
There are dozens of talented actors and puppeteers featured here. The standout is definitely Dave Goelz. At age 75 he is still performing his original character Gonzo. Gonzo carries the movie, as he realizes he doesn’t need to be Gonzo the Great, but just himself, Gonzo. Another standout is Taraji P. Henson as Constance Hatchaway. She plays the creepiness of the murderous bride so well, but has some funny moments too. There are also plenty of celebrity cameos, like Danny Trejo, Chrissy Metz, Yvette Nicole Brown, Darren Criss, and John Stamos, along with Muppet cameos from Miss Piggy, Kermit, Scooter, and Fozzie.
-Script & Story-
The story was probably the weakest party of the movie. There were great moments in Gonzo’s storyline, but no one else really got an arch. The script was jam packed full of references to all four of the Haunted Mansions at the Disney Parks and full of references to the Muppets, but it didn’t feel like it had much substance outside of that. However, if you like the Haunted Mansion ride or the Muppets, you will love it regardless of weakness in the story department.
–Favorite Moments-
My favorite moment of the show was during the new original song Life Hereafter. It was full of fun Haunted Mansion moments, with references to other Disney properties, like Beauty and The Beast. There was a one moment where they are riding doom buggies (the ride vehicles used in the American parks) and it just made me so happy to see the Muppets riding doom buggies!
