Family Friendly Thanksgiving Streaming Ideas for 2022

Thanksgiving is widely celebrated, but there aren’t a lot of Thanksgiving songs or shows. And a lot of the books and lore around Thanksgiving are culturally insensitive and factually incorrect. (Check out Native Hope, that I found through the Wesley Bros.) But there’s still a lot of movie watching time this week and so we need streaming ideas for Thanksgiving time.

*VERY few of these titles are actually holiday related*

Thanksgiving Streaming Ideas 2022

If there’s a lot of down time for you this week with family, or you need something light and fun to binge after a grueling retail week; there are a lot of good streaming options for you! With this list we’re going to strive to be pretty family friendly. The goal being that you could watch most of these with your 3 year old cousin and grandmother.

Disney Plus Thanksgiving Streaming Options

1. Disenchanted is a really fun sequel to Enchanted. Very family friendly. Here’s our full review.
2. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is a really beautifully made movie. There are some scary elements, like a tower of mice and scary clown faces, that make this one better for 8+. Check out more here. You can also check out Noelle.
3. The Peanuts Movie is a fun newer Charlie Brown movie.
4. Weirdest Bestest Truest is a series about strange animal facts.
5. Decorating Disney: Holiday Magic is really interesting! How the Disney parks transform for Christmas/winter literally overnight.
6. Miracle on 34th Street (1994) has a great Thanksgiving scene in it! (The whole movie centers around whether or not Santa Clause is real, so only watch this with kids you’re willing to have that conversation with)

Netflix Family Friendly Thanksgiving Streaming Options:

1. The Bad Guys is a kids movie based off a great book series. Check out our full review here.
2. Llama, Llama Thanks for Giving is season 2, episode 9. If you’ve ever read a Llama Llama book, you don’t need to have watched any other episodes to catch on. Super Cute series.
3. Netflix has some really fun interactive series where you choose what happens next. We really like Running Wild and Carmen Sandiego. Running Wild review here.
4. Christmas Movies! We’ve got guides for Klaus here and Jingle Jangle here. We also Love Angela’s Christmas Gift.
5. Enola Holmes 2 is a really fantastic follow up to the first film. A really fun mystery! Full guide here. Not one I would watch with younger kids but pretty family friendly overall.
6. Slumber Land is the newest movie from Netflix. It’s a fun adventure movie for older kids and adults. Full review here.
7. The School for Good and Evil is a middle school series. Full review here.

*For adults; The Gilmore Girl Thanksgiving episode is a fun re-watch for fans of the show.

Family Friendly Thanksgiving Jokes

Apple TV + Thanksgiving Streaming Options 2022

1. All things Charlie Brown. The Peanuts movies, and new Peanuts specials can all be found on Apple TV +
2. Slumberkins is a new social-emotional learning series based on a fantastic series of books. This is more of an early childhood series.
3. Luck is a new animated movie about a girl who ages out of the foster care system and is consistently unlucky. It’s a comedy and a fun watch for kids. full guide here
4. Ted Lasso– isn’t that why everyone subscribed to Apple TV this year? It’s a good series, not as family friendly as others. There are curse words and a lot of sexual talk and innuendo. But a super fun and encouraging series.
5. Hello Jack: The Kindness Show is a show about compassion and creativity. It’s also aimed mostly at early childhood.

HBO Max Family Friendly Thanksgiving Streaming Options

1. The Friends Thanksgiving episodes. You can find a whole list here but our favorites are:
   -Season 1 Episode 9 (The Underdog balloon flies away and they get locked out of the apartment)
   -Season 3 Episode 9 (Monica and Ross are not allowed to play football together- here’s why)
   -Season 6 Episode 9 (Rachel makes dessert and Joey tries to get out of dinner plans)
2. The Harry Potter Reunion Special.is a fun watch if you love the movies. The author has very little to do with it. It’s mostly the cast and crew reminiscing. Best moments and more info here.
3. Chopped Thanksgiving is a super fun family watch. We love watching Chopped together and talking about what we could do with the ingredients.
4. Fresh Prince‘s episode Talking Turkeys is a fun re-watch if you’re a fan of the original sitcom.
5. A Very Sesame Street Thanksgiving is a pre-school Thanksgiving favorite.
6. The Lego Movie is a fun family friendly watch. You can have a Lego building fest after you watch.
7. Daddy Daycare is just a fun comedy movie to watch together. What happens when two dads get fed up with the price of pre-school and think they can run their own for cheaper, with no experience besides bringing their own kiddos to daycare? Lots of laughs.

Hulu Family Friendly Thanksgiving Streaming Options 2022

1. The Thanksgiving Day Parade– The 6abc Dunkin Thanksgiving Day Parade will play on Thursday at 8am
2. The Great British Baking Show Holiday Edition is a fun baking show to have on in the background.
3. The Great Christmas Light Fight is a fun one to watch together. Then you can go look around the city for big Christmas light displays.
4. Thanksgiving Pie Fight a baking show specifically about Thanksgiving desserts!
5. Fireheart is one of the few kids animated movies on Hulu. About a little girl who dreamed of being a firefighter. Our full review here.
6. Fresh Off the Boat: Huangsgiving is season 2 episode 8. It’s a fun sitcom appropriate for older elementary plus. The Huang family did not grow up with Thanksgiving, now it’s their first to host.

*For adults, Rosaline is a fun new take on Romeo and Juliet and The Proposal is always a fun holiday watch. How I Met Your Mother’s Slapsgiving and Modern Family’s Three Turkeys are fun re-watch episodes.

Prime Video Family Friendly Thanksgiving Streaming Options

1. My Spy is a hilarious rom com similar to Kindergarten Cop, but it might frighten younger viewers. Here’s our full review.
2. The Chosen is a show about those who lived around Jesus. Full guide here.
3. Rise of the Guardians (free with ads) is about all the holiday guardians getting together to try to beat Jack Frost who wants to take over the whole year.
4. Downton Abbey: A New Era is the newest Downton movie and it’s a great watch if you are a fan of the series. Here’s our full review.
5. Catherine Called Birdy (Not one you would want to watch with younger kids) is based on a beloved book and is a coming of age story. Here’s our full review.
6. An Arthur Thanksgiving if you have PBS on Prime you can find this, or you can rent it. It’s one of the episodes of the last two seasons of the show that has run for over a decade.
