Too Old for Fairytales Review

-Is Too Old for Fairytales Appropriate?-

The main topic covered in Too Old for Fairytales that may be hard for kids is the concept of a parent getting ill (cancer in this case). This may be scary for kids too young to grasp the concept or too tragic for kids who have experienced this loss or grief. The mother does not die in the movie, but she is shown suffering a bit.

Nothing else in the movie is overtly inappropriate. The main two boys are a bit girl crazy and ogle over a few girls, but nothing overtly sexual in nature. Most everything else is just teenage kid humor. I wouldn’t suggest this for very young viewers (maybe 6 and down). This is mainly due to the fact that it would most likely lose their attention. Overall, it is a pretty innocent movie, but also doesn’t provide much in terms of depth.

Why Watch Too Old for Fairytales

Being honest, I went into this film pretty skeptical. I wasn’t sure how they would handle a kid who only plays video games and needs “fixing.” But to my surprise, it was actually a very fun movie about what it means to truly live life. The aunt who comes into Waldek’s life isn’t a cranky lady who reprimands him. Rather, she is a fun woman who sees the opportunity to teach him basic life skills while also living alongside him during a difficult time in his life.

Many of the characters are a bit one dimensional, but there are three main characters who really get a chance to shine: Waldek, his aunt, and his mom. Each of them are changed by the end of the film and for the better. They do this by learning and listening to each other. Again, Too Old for Fairytales isn’t a grand, life-changing story, but it does have a certain amount of heart and humor to enjoy.
