What happened to all of the Characters from Jesus Revolution
Jesus Revolution follows the revival surrounding the Hippie movement of the 60s and early 70s. The movie has quite a few main characters and a lot of secondary characters. Most of these roles are real people and some are simply representative of another person or group of people. We have put together a list of what happened to as many of the characters from Jesus Revolution that we could.
What Happened to Chuck Smith from Jesus Revolution
Chuck Smith continued his ministry for many years through Calvary Chapel which led to over 1000 churches. Although there did end up being some controversies regarding his theology and some contentious statements, he continued preaching until his death. Chuck Smith died from lung cancer in 2013 at the age of 86.

What Happened to Lonnie Frisbee from Jesus Revolution
As mentioned in the film, Lonnie and Chuck were able to reconcile later in life. Lonnie continued ministering and was heavily involved in the Vineyard movement. In later years, it was revealed that Frisbee was gay and this fact has been downplayed or eliminated in many accounts (including this movie). Lonnie Frisbee passed away of AIDS in 1993 at 43. What Happened to Charlene from Jesus Revolution
Although Charlene’s story seems like an overarching tragedy, there was light. Charlene did end up finding Jesus, but only one month before her passing in 2003. You can hear Greg discuss it in this video. You can also see Greg writing about Charlene’s story here.
What Happened to Greg and Cathe from Jesus Revolution
Greg and Cathe Laurie got married in 1974 and remain married today. As shown in the film, Greg was given the opportunity to start a new church, which was named Harvest Christian Fellowship. Together, Greg and Cathe have become a powerhouse in the ministry world. Greg remains the senior pastor at Harvest. Laurie is the founder of Virtue, the women’s ministry at Harvest.
Quick notes on Some Other Characters from Jesus Revolution
-Janette Smith (Chuck’s Daughter) continued to work with her father’s ministry, even after he passed. Janette is now enjoying retirement.
-Kay Smith (Chuck’s wife) ministered with her husband and on her own after his passing. Kay Smith passed away on August 13th, 2021 at the age of 94. Check out Calvary Chapel’s article about her to see the depth and beauty of her legacy.
-Dick and Pilar (Cathe’s Father) both passed away in their 90s and there are some great tribute from Cathe on Facebook.
-Dodie (Cathe’s Sister): In reality, Cathe has two sisters. They are still living and seem to be loving life!
–Connie Frisbee (Lonnie’s Wife) separated from Lonnie in 1973. Since then, she has stayed pretty isolated from the public to protect her privacy. She is still living in the US, but her exact whereabouts are unknown.
–Josiah (Interviewer): Josiah as an individual person does not seem to be a real person. The Time Magazine article is real, but seems to be written by multiple people. According to this article, Richard Ostling may be the closest to this character, who is still writing today with his own Religious Q&A blog.
