One of the villains Gru helped to capture has escaped and is vowing to get revenge. So the whole family goes into hiding. And it’s a little bit of a struggle for them to fit in to their new life. And their new next door neighbor isn’t who she seems to be either. Plus, the Minions want to help and volunteer for a new hero training program.
Despicable Me 4 Parent Review
Despicable Me 4 is a mash up of the last 3 movies with an added super hero twist. The plot is a tangled mess. There are a lot of different story threads in this movie, too many. But the goal is to keep the attention of small children with short attention spans, and it does absolutely succeed in that. It is a very fun popcorn movie that fans of the series will enjoy. And you do not need to have seen any of the other Despicable Me movies to enjoy Despicable Me 4.
I wish that the younger kids, Valentina, and Lucy had some more lines and screen time. But the script had so many fantastic one liners. I thought there were some good lessons and themes to talk about as well. The main two being that kids follow your lead more than your words, and how important it is to keep lines of communication open with your kids.

Is Despicable Me 4 Appropriate for Young Kids?
If your kids can handle Despicable Me 1, they can handle Despicable Me 4. There are some things to consider. The Minions main form of comedy is violent or mean slapstick. There are cursing inferences, some fire, some violence, and the ever present kidnapping storyline. On a positive note- it does show a very healthy blended family dynamic!
