Fearless Quick Summary:

Reid is one of the best video gamers in his clan. Finishing the last level of his latest video game wasn’t at all what he was expecting! A portal is created and the characters from the game show up at his back door. Also, these characters are three babies who happen to be learning to use their superpowers. He must find out how to get these babies back to their dad while also protecting them from the evil Dr. Acannis.

It’s a movie with a ton of potential, but in our opinion- it failed to level up to it. There’s nothing very offensive or terribly scary, just a few jump scares, so it’s a safe one for the kids and they will probably enjoy it. Hits the demographic audience but looses the power up of engaging the adult one as well.

Fearless Review:

-Characters & Acting

The characters in the movie dont show a lot of depth throughout the story. There are small moments of growth but very little overarching character development. The main characters, Reid and Melanie, play off of each decently.

The voice acting in Fearless was very hit and miss. Melanie was the only character whose voice always matched the emotion and intensity. There are several situations in which the main heroes and villain have very underwhelmingly delivered material. General Blazerhatch, although a somewhat sporadic character, adds a fun flair to the film in her own way as well that we enjoyed.

-Script & Story

The plot has so much potential at the beginning of the story. Although some of the stories built up at the beginning of the movie pay off well, many points are left underdeveloped or simply ignored for the rest of the movie. Although Melanie has a brief moment of learning through her journey, the other characters end up in the exact spot you expect them to be.

The bulk of the plot was clunky. It wasn’t a fun ride from beginning to end, it was lurchy with some potentially great moments that mostly fizzled. Even the movie’s last scene was very underwhelming. We expected it to be cheesy, but were hoping for some heart too. Much like Reid was hoping for a different end to his game, we were hoping for a different end to this movie. It will still appeal to it’s base demographic but isn’t one I would re-watch with the kids.

Favorite Moments

The three superhero babies are the saving grace of this film. They fulfill the comic relief roles consistently and effectively. There are several times when the abilities of these kids plays a big role in the film and seeing them learn more and more is both adorable and fun.

Fearless Discussion Questions:

  1. Which baby’s power would you most like to have and why?
  2. What is the most difficult group project you have ever participated in? Did you do most of the work, did you partner, or did you split the work equally?
  3. What music calms you down when you are stressed or upset?
  4. What would you do if your video game entered reality? Would it be fun, terrifying, dangerous, etc?
-Final Thoughts on the Netflix Movie Fearless-

Ultimately, this movie lacks real depth and development. That being said, there are cute and funny moments that younger audiences will enjoy.
