Why Watch Hocus Pocus 2-

The easiest response to this question is simply, “It’s a pretty fun, mostly family friendly Halloween movie.” I should probably elaborate though. I was a bit concerned about how they planned on continuing the pretty decisive ending of the first film, but I think they managed to bring back the Sanderson Sisters in a satisfying way that also built up some new characters. Although it would have been cool to see the kids from the original return, the new kids in the story do a really good job at telling a new, compelling story.

It was fun to see the Sanderson Sisters back on screen and all three actresses seemed to be having a blast reprising their roles. Some of the scenes are a bit cheesy, but that is to be expected in this kind of film. The ending was actually quite poignant and beautifully told as well in a great send off of the series.

-Is Hocus Pocus 2 Appropriate?-

Hocus Pocus 2 is generally pretty appropriate. Firstly, I would say, if you watched the first Hocus Pocus film, then this one should be fine. It is generally lighter and doesn’t have some of the more inappropriate language of the original.

With that said, there are definitely a few things to be wary of if you are watching with younger viewers. As can be expected, there is a lot of macabre and spooky imagery being a film about witched. Despite this, nothing is overly creepy and there aren’t really any jump scares. And even the darker moments of the film are offset by humor and lighting. The witches make many allusions to harming the children and one does get hit by a spell a few times. This is just shown as pain and doesn’t have any blood or gore involved.
