Young Jedi Adventures Review
Young Jedi Adventures is a fun take on the Star Wars universe that makes it much more palatable for the young viewer. For this reason, older viewers of Star Wars may find the series boring or irritating for lacking the spark that they have come to expect from most Star Wars properties. On the other hand, if you have kids/grandkids who you’ve been wanting to introduce Star Wars to, this is a fun entry point that doesn’t ruin any of the other films/shows.
The story follows three kids (Kai, Lys, and Nubs) who are all training to become Jedis. They are first introduced as the slightly rebellious kids (just struggling with punctuality and listening to authority), but they have a heart for helping others. This is the general premise of the show is that helping others takes precedent over most other things.
For the deep Star Wars nerds, you will be relieved to know that this series takes place about 200 years before The Phantom Menace. So, we will not have to worry about the looming threat of Mr. Anakin Skywalker.
As mentioned, this is a fun introduction to the larger Star Wards universe. There are also a lot of fun Books tying into the show that could be fun for young readers. Also, if you haven’t seen the Star Wars Yarn Books for young readers, they are super fun for the little ones in your life.
Yoda’s Lessons from Young Jedi Adventures
Lesson 1 – Prioritizing People Over Things
When Kai has to decide between helping his friend or getting his saber back, he attempts to do both. When he fails to save his friend, Yoda comes in with these wise words:
“Always focus on helping others, a Jedi must. Not on objects.”
“A selfless choice you made, Kai. You helped others. That is the way of the Jedi”

Lesson 2 – Encouragement Goes a Long Way
Kai, as well as the other trainees, often make mistakes and feel discouraged. There are many times when a leader will come in and give advice or encouragement. This is also seen from Yoda himself at the end of episode one after Kai sacrificed his lightsaber to save a friend. He feels guilty about losing his saber until Yoda comes in with some words of wisdow.
“This was my training lightsaber when I was your age. Yours, now it is.”
“Proud of you I am, Kai Brightstar. A great Jedi you will one day be.”

Lesson 3 – Take Your Time and Do Things Right
The kids are faced with different obstacles while training, some if which require patience and timing. Yoda advises her as well as a later incident when they try to find a quick shortcut around a chore that goes considerably awry.
“Not important it is how fast you perform a task. Take your time, then successful you will be.”
“So better to take your time and do things right, you have learned.”

Lesson 4 – Stay Calm Under Pressure
During a training session, the younglings become overwhelmed by their training and Yoda offers comforting words and advice. He then proceeds to join them on an adventure where this lesson is shown and felt firsthand.
“When confronting a challenge, stay calm, breathe, focus on what is in front of you, and do it.”
“Nash, believe in you, we do. You are more capable than you realize. You can so this.

Lesson 5 – Perfection is Not as Important as Improvement
Kai struggles with not being able to perform a Jedi task with perfection and deals with this issue in many aspects of his life until the end of the Yoda comes and provides some important insight. Yoda says that perfection is not the goal, acceptance and improvement of one’s self is the true goal.
“So quick you are to empower others and accept their imperfections. You deserve the same.”
“I did not give you my lightsaber because you are perfect. I gave it to you because you are you.”

Lesson 6 – The Future is in Your Hands
This was the last episode (at time of writing) and tells the really interesting story of Cyrus Vuundir as he begins to feel friendship and possibly turns from his evil ways. At the the end of the episode, he runs into Yoda who tells him that his future could be filled with greatness, depending on the choices he makes.
“Proud of you, I am. Ever since you three arrived on Tenoo, you have cared for others. Greatness I saw in you then, and greatness I sense for you ahead.
“Much conflict in you, I sense. Greatness I sense in you too, if you make the right choices. Up to you, the future is.”
