Peter Rabbit Review

Thoughts from the Elf:

– Something I hear in the adoption community a lot is ‘the more people that love our child or family- the better’. This movie really drives that point home. We need to be open and willing to let new people into our circles and to share our love and friendship with others. Being stingy with our love and respect hurts not only us, but those around us.

-I laughed until my cheeks hurt! The diet and parenting jokes were my absolute favorite. There were so many excellent one liners. This is my favorite kind of comedy in a children’s movie because, while their were a few rude/ bathroom humor type jokes, a majority of the jokes pointed at the adults were tactfully hidden. You don’t have to have children with you to go see this movie and laugh your face off.

-The acting and voice acting were really wonderful. James Corden is hysterical and he very much embodies a wild, mischievous and lovable Peter Rabbit. If you are not sure if you would like the humor in this movie- go watch a crosswalk musical. If you chuckle at all during that- you would laugh during this movie.

Thoughts from the Ent:

-One of the themes of this movie deals with handling new people coming into your established life.  Although it may not be the best example on how to deal with these new situations, I think some kids dealing with new family situations, like a new step sibling or parent, may be able to relate to Peter Rabbit.

-One moment that was very nice is when Peter Rabbit asks forgiveness from his family and friends.  I think a moment that was missed in this film is Peter Rabbit asking forgiveness from the “antagonist” Thomas McGregor.  This could have been a poignant moment for both characters who have been seen as slightly unlikeable.

-[This is satirical-ish] Attempted murder is apparently acceptable as long as you are an adorable bunny.

-I loved how great the music was and I was not expecting that. Not only did James Corden get to sing a little bit but there were amazing parodies of Remember The Name and 500 Miles.

Thoughts from the Hobbit:

-As a Hobbit and a dog owner, I am disinclined to like rabbits very much. But this was a cute movie. There were lots of cheesy jokes and good laughter moments. God definitely gave us laughter and it is good medicine.
