What are you going to be watching this month?!?!?
Halloween Movies and Shows on Disney+
Hocus Pocus and its Sequel
It’s a Halloween CLASSIC! But Hocus Pocus might not be as family friendly as you remember it being!! (We suggest 10+) Three witches are conjured up by kids and things get spooky quickly! The new kids get themselves into quite an adventure in their haunted town. One of my favorites to watch while carving pumpkins! Hocus Pocus 2 is also a very fun watch and in some ways is a bit more appropriate than the first movie!
Frankenweenie
A Tim Burton animation meets Frankenstien story. Filmed in black and white and animated- but this one is not made for younger kids. We suggest 10+ for this one because the content is pretty heavy.
Nightmare before Christmas
This cult classic is a great Tim Burton musical filled with eerie scenes, likable characters, and intense songs. This is made for kids, but some of the imagery may be a bit scary for younger viewers. If your family can handle it, we highly recommend this fantastic musical!
Coco (our full review HERE)
One of the most underrated animated Disney movies. This is a must watch family movie and it is a great introduction and celebration of Dia de la Muertes. What does it look like to support your beloved family? Suggested age range 5 plus (if animated skeletons will not scare them). Find our full parent review with discussion questions here!
Haunted Mansion Versions
Muppet Haunted Mansion
The Muppets return in 2021 to provide some hilarious and spooky dive back into the world of the the Haunted Mansion. To prove himself, Gonzo undertakes a spooky night with his friend Pepe as Gonzo learns the value of being content in who he is. Check out our full review here
2023 Haunted Mansion
Ben Matthias is a grumpy ghost tour guide, but when an opportunity comes to make some money, he’ll face the ghosts he doesn’t believe in. Check out our favorite moments from Haunted Mansion 2023. There are also other versions that are worth checking out as well!
Also on Disney Plus:
Haunted Mansion, Maleficent, Halloweentown, ZOMBIES Trilogy, James and the Giant Peach, Vampirina (show for 2yrs+), and The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.

Halloween Movies and Shows on Netflix
The Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting
A secret society that exists to fight monster’s?! It wasn’t what this babysitter had on the agenda for sure! Check out our full review here!
Stranger Things
Slowly becoming a modern day cult classic, Stranger Things is a perfect combination of 80’s nostalgia and thrillers. There are currently 4 seasons on Netflix. So, there is much to watch! This show is mostly aimed at adults and teenagers due to the monsters and imagery.
Cory Carson Halloween
Cory Carson is a fun car with a normal little car family. This show is like Pixar’s Cars, but made for toddler-aged children. So, this show will be perfect for the little ones in the household!
Enola Holmes (Check out our review here)
Alright, it’s not technically a Halloween movie! But it’s a great mystery!! Middle and Highschoolers can enjoy this one. Check out our full review HERE!
Dreamworks Spooky Stories
In this collection of shorts you’ll find a whole lot of spooky fun. Starting with Shrek and ending with Monsters Vs. Aliens. These shorts are fun for elementary aged kiddos who enjoyed those movies.
The Good Witch
You do not have to wait until Christmas to enjoy a good cheesy Hallmark show!! If you are not a fan of big spooks or scares- this is the Halloween watch for you. The Good Witch is a Hallmark series (for teens who enjoy Hallmark +) that follows a charming family and their adventures in a small town. A feel good series that’s comfort binge watching gold.
Wednesday
In 2022, Netflix introduced the much beloved Wednesday show. This murder mystery show is a fantastic combination of dark humor and intense adventure. Check out our Wednesday Review here!
Also on Netflix:
Spookley the Square Pumpkin, Scaredy Cats, Dreamworks Spooky Stories 2, Hubbie Halloween, Goosebumps series (1998), The Little Vampire, The SuperMonsters series, Hotel Translyvania Series, Scooby Doo Live Actions

Halloween Movies and Shows on HBO Max
Scoob!
The new Scooby Doo movie introduces the classic cartoon to a new generation in a really fun way. I’m a classic Scooby fan and I enjoyed this remake. You can find our full review of the movie right here! We suggest for 7 yr olds + because of some of the humor and intense action.
Batman vs Dracula
Do we really need any more explanation? Batman vs. Dracula! With all of the Batman villains in existence, you wouldn’t think it could worse for the caped crusader. Unfortunately, Bruce is about to run into a foe unlike any he has met before (unless you count manbat). There are some intense and scary scenes, so we are suggesting for kids over the age of 8.
Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai
Based on the classic movie, this show is a kids show that is a fantastic introduction to the cute little creatures, with a dark surprise.
Poltergeist
This movie may be a bit scary for many viewers (Don’t let the PG rating fool you). With that said, if your family can handle the spooks, Poltergeist will give you some really creepy intense storytelling as well as one of the most iconic scenes in horror movie history.
Also on HBO Max:
Scooby Doo the Movie, Nancy Drew, Kiki’s Delivery Service, The original Mummy (1959), Beetlejuice, The Corpse Bride
You can find the rest of our family friendly HBO Max streaming suggestions right here!
Halloween Movies and Shows on Prime Video
There is not a whole lot of Halloween streaming options on Prime Video.
Addams Family 1 and 2 (Find full review here)
Addams Family 2 is back. The dark humor and fun animation are back again with the Addams Family 2. Gomez is concerned about how grown up Wednesday and Pugsley are. Connecting with teenagers is hard. So dad plans a big family road trip in a haunted RV.
Just Add Magic
This is a series based on magical kids who find a family members recipe book and realizes these aren’t like any recipes they’ve ever seen before.
If You Give a Mouse a Pumpkin
The If You Give a Mouse series is so fun. This is their fall/ Halloween episode.
The Super Simple Show- Halloween/ Cocomelon and Friends Halloween Special
Kids music specials- particularly aimed at kids 7 and under. Parents beware, the songs are catchy and our kids want to watch them endlessly.
Also on Prime Video:
Bug Diaries: Halloween Special, The Dog Who Saved Halloween, Wild Kratts: Creepy Creatures, Do, Re & Mi: Halloween Harmony, Tumble Leaf: Trick-or-treat Trek, Daniel Tiger and More Halloween Fun!
You can find the rest of our family friendly Prime Video streaming suggestions right here!
Halloween Movies and Shows on Hulu
Hotel Transylvania
This is such a fun movie to introduce kids to all the classic horror movie villains without freaking them out! Dracula owns a hotel for monsters that is discovered when his daughter let’s in a human.
X-files
We recently went back and watched the first season of this with our family. We were impressed by how some of the special effects stood up and also how it still managed to thoroughly creep me out! I can handle the old show, but not the newer ones personally. Teens and up would be our suggestion.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Oh Buffy. The teen drama where a vampire falls in love with a vampire slayer. It wasn’t as cliché back then. This Joss Whedon show would be rated PG-13 or higher. While the effects aren’t terribly scary, it’s still a vampire slaying show and some of the episodes get a little intense.
Also on Hulu:
Dark Shadows , Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1990’s version), Sleepy Hollow Series, The Simpsons Halloween Episodes
You can find the rest of our family friendly Hulu streaming suggestions right here!
